The Private Capital team within MIM manages approximately $100 billion in Private Corporates and Infrastructure debt and is an industry leader in private debt with a 100+ year history of originating private debt. Our name and reputation are well known throughout the marketplace and borrowers look to us for customized lending solutions designed to meet their unique funding needs in a quick and efficient manner. The primary function of the Associate Director role is to assist with analyzing and negotiating Corporate Private Placement debt investments sourced from banks, advisors and directly from existing and prospective issuers. The new member will work closely with an experienced team covering corporate credits across several industries, including REITs and asset managers. The candidate will benefit from an excellent environment in which to develop their fundamental credit skills.


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assisting with credit assessment of investment proposals, including review of research material and financial statements, and in-person or virtual meetings with issuers’ senior management.
  • Preparation of written materials, including financial analysis, for credit committee and assignment of internal ratings.
  • Review and negotiation of legal documentation in conjunction with internal and external counsel.
  • Assessment of pricing on offered transactions on a relative value basis.
  • Communicate with bankers and advisors to help facilitate deal flow.
  • Ongoing credit review of existing investments, including attending follow-on meetings and presentations with issuers; Conduct due diligence meetings with issuer companies.
  • Work closely with the client portfolio management team to address credit questions and requests from investors relating to new investment proposals and the existing portfolio. 
  • Identifying opportunities for potential bilateral, direct investments and marketing to these companies.
  • Building effective internal working relationships and developing contacts with external market participants.
  • Facilitating and processing amendments, waivers, and other requested documentation changes.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 5+ years of related work experience, preferably from an accountancy, investment management, banking, or a rating agency environment.
  • Strong teamwork-driven attitude, but also ability to work well independently.
  • The presence to represent MetLife with senior finance staff of debt private placement issuers and an ability to develop strong commercial relationships with CFO’s and Treasurers of issuers.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Strong academic background.
  • Very good written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong accounting and financial analysis skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and under tight working deadlines.


  • CFA or MBA.
  • Experience analyzing REITs and other financial sector companies.
