Role Value Proposition: 

The Tax Consultant (Tax, State and Local Insurance) is responsible for a more complex and specialized discipline of taxation such as life insurance taxation and property and casualty insurance taxation. Will prepare, review, and improve US state income tax return filings, provision calculations, documentation, and other related materials for insurance companies. Devise legal means to minimize tax liability, using thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations. Will support the Tax Department’s initiatives to develop and enhance automated solutions.


Key Responsibilities:  

  • Prepares state and local income tax returns for Life and Property and Casualty Companies.   
  • Responsible for analyzing and paying tax assessments in a timely manner.
  • Prepare statutory and GAAP US state income tax provision and projections, ensure documentation is properly maintained.
  • Liaise with and defer to others in Tax Department, including Tax counsel, to support tax controversy, transactions, special projects, tax return preparation and review.
  • Communicate and present results to Senior Tax Management effectively, using concise summaries and recommendations.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following key areas:
    • Insurance Company state income tax return preparation and review
    • Working knowledge of Statutory and US GAAP provision requirements
    • Federal income tax experience
    • Public accounting or consulting firm, working as a dedicated Tax professional
  • Proficient with OneSource Tax Software, MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to research and document tax issues
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate well with other team members.



  • Experience using business intelligence tools such as Alteryx, Tableau, or TRCS
  • MA in Taxation highly desired, Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or relevant field preferred
  • CPA highly desired
