The Role:


The AVP, Corporate Communications reports to the VP of Finance Communications. 


Key responsibilities of this AVP role include working closely with the VP of Finance Communications on the strategic communications to support MetLife’s Finance organization, including the CFO, the head of Investor Relations, and other members of the CFO’s Financial Leadership Team (FLT).


In this role, the AVP will provide strategic communication support for the VP and Finance organization by developing and executing integrated communications strategies that influence both the internal and external audiences. This individual will play a leading role in developing internal communication plans and executing them against Finance’s strategic objectives. He/she will engage Finance leaders in an active and collaborative communication planning and implementation process.


This individual must have significant experience in managing internal and external communications that target a wide range of stakeholder groups including Finance associates, media, the investor community and other influencers.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop and execute strategic internal and external Finance communications plans to support objectives and shape positive business outcomes
  • Provide executive communications support to MetLife’s CFO and members of the FLT; Host regular interactions with leaders to help them improve their ability to communicate with their teams
  • Effectively manage and deliver communication through a variety of channels including the FMG community sharepoint site, Yammer, CFO town halls and other emerging communications technology
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information and develop communication plans accordingly
  • Assist in the quarterly earnings process including the earnings news release and CFO earnings video to all MetLife associates
  • Assist in corporate news releases are required
  • Manage metrics that measure the effectiveness of Finance communications, including that of the CFO.

  • Key Stakeholders: CFO and members of the FLT, finance associates, media, the investor community and other influencers.


Candidate Qualifications:


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Min. 8 years of experience in corporate communications (covering both external and internal), preferably at an insurance company or similar financial institution.
  • Track record of success in developing and executing financial communications.
  • Communications experience in internal communications, as well as supporting on quarterly earnings release, corporate actions, investor events, M&A activities, financing transactions and shareholder outreach.
  • Ability to explain complex financial concepts and make them relevant to multiple audiences.
  • Experience working with senior business leaders.
  • Ability to work as a team player who willingly shares knowledge and information with others.
  • Sound judgment as a communications professional.
  • High proficiency in written and verbal communication.
