Role Value Proposition: 

In an ongoing effort to grow and enrich MetLife’s data driven business strategy, the central Data and Analytics Center of Excellence is seeking an experienced data scientist to support its stakeholders in US Group Sales and Product.   At a high level, the position provides data analysis and decision support to the broader Small/Regional Markets and National Accounts teams, consulting with stakeholders not only to deliver insights, but to provide guidance for their path to analytic maturity.  Therefore, at a low level, the role requires technical mastery (data management, reporting, statistical programming & analysis, and data science modeling), analytical intuition (knowing how to apply technical skills to solve business problems) and strong communication skills (convey results of analysis in a way that is understood by and useful to business leaders).  This is not an applied engineering role, but rather a role for sales/marketing analysts with very strong statistical/data science skills. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Consult with internal stakeholders to understand their analytic needs
  • Design and enable analytic solutions that drive strategy, measure effectiveness and/or provide recommendations intended to optimize KPIs
  • Translate business problems into analytical questions and Deliver first-in-class analysis or reporting with minimal supervision
  • Educate marketing stakeholders in analytical best practices
  • Technical work will be done primarily in Python, but R/SAS experience will also be considered.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, (Applied) Mathematics, Operations Research, Business, or Analytics/Data Science
  • 2+ years of experience as business analyst, statistician, data scientist, and/or reporting analyst
  • Expert Level SAS, R, or Python (numpy, pandas, scikit-learn) programmer
  • Understanding of the mechanics and application of statistics, statistical models, and data science techniques with the ability to explain relevant conceptual points to a business audience
  • Basic understanding of data integration / ETL concepts.  Ability to clean and/or manipulate data using statistical software
  • Ability to function autonomously with minimal guidance
  • Convergent Thinking: the ability to ensure analytic discussions are focused on end-result and do not go down detours
  • Accountability: Person is responsible for completing tasks in appropriate amount of time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Motivation to learn and succeed


  • Background with sales and/or marketing a major advantage
  • Master's Degree in related field preferred. Other degrees – Ph.D., MBA, etc. with relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Basic SQL skills also desirable
  • Experience with Qlik- QlikView or Qliksense), BI experience, cloud-based data-visualization tools
