Mainframe Batch Operator (weekend shift)

Role Value Proposition: 

Will support/monitor centralized Mainframe and Maestro batch environments via OPCE/Tivoli Workstation to ensure the availability of applications and throughput in accordance with OLAs, SLAs.  Will oversee process and documentation updates and improvements while providing an interface and support of IT partner teams in a 24/7/365 IT Data Center.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform monitoring of mainframe and server production batch.
  • Monitor User request queues, ensuring items are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner.              
  • Apply JCL overrides, changes to the production environment and additions to the daily schedule.
  • Perform ABEND resolution and escalation.
  • Assist in production outages and delays with programmers and support personnel.
  • Work hours are 7pm to 7am Saturday and Sunday with 3rd day of week TBD


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required Experience:   

  • 2+ years IT experience in a large environment such as a Data Center or Command Center, or similar environment.   
  • Experience with mainframe and server operating systems (z/OS & JCL), batch support via OPCE and Maestro (TWS or equivalent) and other IT management tools.      


Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Good communication skills, ability to build effective partnerships with peer groups, vendor staff, etc.
  • Ability to focus on multiple tasks and projects, potentially in parallel with regular monitoring and restoration of service activities.
  • Familiarity with BMC Impact Explorer, Connect Direct, SDSF, TSO/ISPF, JCL, and Microsoft Outlook.
