As a Lead Engineer in Security, you will be a critical member of a dedicated team, providing solution and domain architecture services for digital and legacy projects around the globe. You will have the opportunity to drive innovative solutions using cutting-edge technologies, and you will have the responsibility to ensure that systems are designed with security, resilience, and performance in mind.


The Lead Security Engineer defines and communicates the system and business capabilities, services, technologies, quality attributes, and design required to implement a solution which represents an intersection of MetLife’s Business, Information, Application, Governance, and Technology domains.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Domain expertise in Application/User Security and Cloud Technologies/Architectures.
  • Responsible for creating, analyzing, and communicating system architectures, application design patterns, and reference architectures/standards 
  • Work closely with software engineers, security professionals, infrastructure engineers, and other Enterprise Architects in validating and implementing proposed solutions.
  • Collaborate with other architects to ensure integrity of solutions to reference architectures and standards.
  • Leads or participates on matrix team projects as assigned. 


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in Software Engineering or Architecture and strong technical experience with building enterprise scale security solutions
  • IDaaS and Web Application Management experience a must
  • 3+ years of experience with security architecture including hands-on knowledge of SAML 2.0, oAuth, OpenID Connect, SSO, Multi-Factor Authentication, cloud security, etc.
  • 2+ years knowledge with Cloud Computing platforms with preferred experience in Azure
  • Knowledge or hands on experience with Ping Identity 
  • Demonstrated expertise in security, operational, and resiliency architecture principles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with focused attention to details, as well as demonstrated professionalism and time/task management skills
  • Strong Agile and DevOps experience
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to apply analysis to actionable insights


  • Demonstrated influencing and negotiating skills
  • Demonstrated business acumen especially in insurance and financial industries and systems
  • IT Experience in enterprise-scale organizations in an architecture role
  • Knowledge of multiple architecture disciplines, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience


The wage range for this position specific to Colorado is $129,200 – $161,500.  The role is eligible for incentive compensation under the MetLife Annual Variable Incentive Plan ("AVIP").  Your eligibility for and award of incentives are governed by the terms of the plan.
