As a Director of Engineering (Developer Platforms & Automation), you will be managing full-stack software engineers on a fast-paced team building and running systems that are customer-first, leveraging modern technologies, innovative design, and integrations across the entire software stack. You will have an opportunity to impact every part of the system, foster and cultivate your curiosity and fill a critical role enabling the team to focus on delivering amazing technology and customer solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities:
 

• Manage one of the key technical teams within the Developer Platform.

• Engage key partners and stakeholders on roadmap, strategy, and delivery of product features.

• Interface with key stakeholders, technologists, and senior management.

• Analyze, design, and drive solutions for major components and features of platform

frameworks.

• Responsible for developing Platform & Cloud Automation (using tools like Terraform) for ensuring a repeatable and automated way for platform consumption

• Ensures that application blueprints and patterns are created for standardized and easy consumption by development teams

• Mentor and lead software engineers.

• Responsible for managing finances related to project deliverables.

• Manage product backlog, user expectations, and requirements scope.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills: ­­ 

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years’ experience in software engineering with building enterprise scale distributed Applications, and with Cloud Platforms & Automation.
  • 8+ years’ managing full-time or offshore engineers.
  • 6+ years’ experience with one object-oriented programming language such as Java, C#, etc.
  • 6+ years’ experience with one web language such as JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
  • 3+ years’ experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases (document-based).
  • Ability to build, deliver, and operate complex cloud-native systems.
  • Experience with cloud service providers such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google.
  • Proven Agile, Lean, DevSecOps/DevOps knowledge and experience.

 

Preferred:

  • Background working in Financial Services, Insurance and/or Banking experience.
  • Hands-on technology driver who is motivated to create innovative solutions to unique problems.
  • Willingness to adopt and evangelize modern technology and key process improvements within the technology department.
  • Background working with mobile and/or hybrid web applications.
  • Proficiency with modern UX/UI design principles, HTML5, and CSS3.
  • Proficiency with Cloud Platforms and Automation tools like Terraform and Ansible/Chef
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with focused attention to details.
  • Excellent professionalism and time/task management skills with ability to establish strong relationships.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to apply analysis to actionable insights.
  • Proven cross-functional leadership skills to motivate and inspire the team.

The wage range for applicants for this position is $103,400 to $174,100. This role is also eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. MetLife offers a comprehensive benefits program, including health benefits, life insurance, retirement benefits, parental leave, legal plan services and paid time off. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
