Role Value Proposition: 

The Lead Architect role is part of MetLife’s Enterprise Architecture practice and will work on projects within the group insurance area.  The Lead Architect is responsible for planning the development, specification and communication of an architecture domain and/or solution architecture. The primary job function is to design and illustrate Solution Architecture for business-driven strategies and programs.  The successful candidate will maintain expertise in the business process, the business applications, technology, and IT Strategy.  He/she considers requirements from numerous matrixed teams and delivers the technical blueprints from which the program will build and test the solution.  These blueprints illustrate multiple levels of technical complexity including all business applications, data, integrations, security, payloads and protocols, and infrastructure. The Lead Architect must be able to leverage the illustrations to clearly articulate the solutions to a broad range of stakeholders from senior business management to first-line developers and project managers.   


Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for creating, analyzing and review of assigned architecture domain/solution architecture.
  • Collaborates with other architects to ensure integrity of assigned domain or solution architecture and partners with application development teams in validating and implementing proposed solutions
  • Leads or participates on matrixed team projects as assigned& participates in project planning, maintaining related project documents and/or architecture artifacts
  • Defines the system components, services, technologies, and design required to implement a solution that represents an intersection of elements from MetLife’s Business, Information, Application, and Technology architecture domains, and addresses a specific business opportunity or problem and maintains broad and deep understanding of multiple technologies, reference architectures and business applications
  • Facilitates business data analysis, acquisition and access analysis and design, DBMS optimization, archiving and recovery strategy, load strategy design, security and change management
  • Ensures existing data/information assets are identified, stewarded and leveraged across the enterprise.
  • Evaluates reusability of current data for additional analyses, and provide work guidance to lower level and project staff, and oversee the deliverables of consulting resources.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 5+ years of related architecture experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Advanced knowledge of one or more architecture disciplines, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Experience at working with System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Experience with project planning and execution
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, analyze and apply abstract architectural concepts
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to be consultative- possessing effective influencing and negotiating skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with peer level associates
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision working simultaneously on multiple large, complex projects
  • Broad knowledge of technologies and design patterns


  • Advanced knowledge of multiple architecture disciplines, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Experience and/or trained in one or more formal architecture frameworks such as FEAF, TOGAF, or Zachman
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or higher)
