Summary of Responsibilities:

The Director Voluntary Communication is responsible for managing a team of Voluntary Communication Specialists (between 7 – 12 direct reports). Provides strategic direction and develops tactical responsibilities for a team of diverse associates.. Drives voluntary and core benefits participation results upwards of $200M annually across all products through innovative marketing and communication strategies as well as enrollment design at the customer level. Ensures that enrollment and re-enrollment plans are detailed, thorough, specific to the individual customer and are followed through to completion, including reporting. Has a deep level of product expertise across the entire voluntary portfolio and is adept at navigating the full range of internal and external resources needed to advocate for the right level of customization and change. Builds, develops and deploys talent across the operation to build competencies around enrollment, re-enrollment and communication within the organization

This individual and their teams will partner closely with the Voluntary Specialist Directors, Regional Directors and the assigned Regional Vice Presidents and sales team to drive growth of MetLife’s benefits product portfolio.

Principal Responsibilities:

1. Build new, and maintain existing, relationships with sales partners, including RVPs to increase revenue.

2. Partner with VSDs to consult and advise sales partners on value-added strategies to optimize business with brokers and clients.

3. Serves as the technical expert in everything second sale, including products and preferred enrollment platforms

4. Organization development- building a team of experts with diverse experiences from the ground up- a new organization driving results with competencies not currently developed anywhere in the organization related to enrollment strategy and practice

5. Setting strategic direction for this new organization including developing processes and procedures, defining metrics and measurements for success and identifying and building talent

6. Managing a team of remote/hybrid and in-office associates assigned by region

7. Full people management responsibilities including hiring, firing, promotions, and performance and compensation management

8. Ensure enrollment strategies and re-enrollment strategies are thorough, customer focused and executed upon.

9. Ensure resources supporting enrollment meetings are trained and prepared; Identify appropriate plan material/plan summaries and coordinate orders.

10. Measure participation and monitor Voluntary Communication Specialists activity to ensure consistent, quality results.

11. Work in conjunction with COE, Marketing and Regional and National Accounts to identify sales training opportunities and deliver expertise to aligned sales team.

12. Support re-enrollment goals across the Voluntary book of business

13. Support Voluntary Growth goals for entire USB Group book of business

14. Deliver on strategic initiatives as directed by management

15. Help sales teams build expertise and prioritize key growth opportunities.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies Required:

· 5+ years of experience in product, sales, marketing, or wholesaling in insurance industry (internal, external or combination)

· Ability to work independently and to communicate clearly and concisely

· Proven ability to build strong relationships

· Proven expertise at end to end people management, including hiring, firing, associate development and team building

· Thorough knowledge of and proven ability to demonstrate sales and marketing principles and practices

· Expected to maintain a thorough knowledge of existing, new and enhanced products.

· Proven ability to produce results through others

· Travel up to 25% required

· Expertise interacting with customers and brokers

· Ability to act with a strong sense of urgency and resourcefulness to champion needed org change

· Ability to develop and execute strategy

· Excellent written & oral communication skills

· Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management

· Sound business judgment

· Bachelor's degree or equivalent of experience and education
