Role Value Proposition: 

This position is an Individual Contributor role in MetLife’s Compliance Risk Management (CRM) organization reporting to the Director, Compliance.  The Compliance Consultant supports the Corporate Ethics and Compliance (CEC) Quality Assurance (QA) program on a global basis to ensure compliance with CRM requirements and system documentation standards.  Specifically, this associate analyzes compliance risks and related assessments within the Governance, Risk, and Compliance System (OpenPages) and identifies and escalates concerns to Compliance management to strengthen oversight activities. He/she supports reporting on key performance metrics and escalates heightened risk via scorecards and reporting tools. He/she also assists with the creation and delivery of training programs to support CEC and business unit partners in implementing effective risk management strategies.


This incumbent must possess a risk/control mind-set sufficient to independently formulate and execute CRM Program policies which are based on industry standards and best practices.


Key Responsibilities:  

  • Assists or conducts in the performance of QA reviews to assess compliance with CRM requirements and adequacy of documentation standards. Compiles reports of findings for CEC management and where feasible, proposes remediation steps.
  • Supports projects to identify, assess, and address emerging compliance risks and CRM Program gaps.  
  • Evaluates the content and quality of risk assessments to ensure adherence to CRM Program standards.
  • Creates dashboard tools and reporting mechanisms to support meaningful risk reporting and analysis by senior leadership. Researches best practices in compliance risk oversight.
  • Participates in initiatives related to advancing the vision and strategy of the CRM Program.
  • Assists with defining Governance, Risk and Compliance system requirements to support the CRM Program.   
  • Build and maintain key relationships with stakeholders and colleagues, establishing a culture of engagement while adding value, effective teamwork and innovative thinking.
  • Provide advice and effective challenge to internal stakeholders.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • 5+ years’ prior experience, preferably within a compliance role or similar (e.g. risk, audit), with an emphasis on financial services
  • Solid understanding of risk management principles and auditing processes, including effective control design and testing and sampling methodologies 
  • Understanding of issue identification and root cause analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of Company operations, products, and services in multiple distribution channels
  • Understanding of the key regulatory and compliance risk areas for MetLife, including laws and regulations impacting various regions/lines of business  
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to perform multiple assignments simultaneously with competing deadlines
  • Ability to execute projects involving multiple stakeholders across MetLife
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical and functional expertise 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to adapt to, interact with, and deliver effective presentations to, audiences at various levels
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word and Excel)
