The Role:  The VP, HR Business Partner, Investments, is the senior HR business partner for MetLife’s global investments business and a part of the US Business and Global Investments HR leadership team.  Based in Whippany, New Jersey, MetLife Investment Management is one of the largest institutional investors and asset managers in the world, with over $584 billion in combined managed assets, and has consistently generated superior returns for both policyholders and shareholders. This role will provide HR leadership, strategic consulting and guidance to the President of MIM and Executive Vice President, Chief Investment Officer, of MetLife and his senior leadership team during a time of transformation and growth.  This position partners with Investments leadership on culture and change management, organizational design/ development and plays a leading role in the delivery of all change affecting employees. In addition, this role will partner with MetLife’s HR Centers of Expertise to deliver in the areas of HR data analytics, compensation, learning and development, talent management and acquisition, diversity & inclusion and global mobility in support of business goals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as lead HR Business Partner working with the MIM senior leadership team to influence business priorities and strategies, actively engaging in business meetings, cross-functional initiatives, execution sessions, and strategic planning workshops
  • Develop and implement a human capital plan that supports the short and long term Investments business strategy, enterprise initiatives, and achievement of overall business objectives.
  • Provide senior level partnership, advice, consultation and intelligence regarding organizational effectiveness and workforce planning to business leaders.
  • Provide leadership and expertise to enable leaders to manage cultural change that will drive business to achieve long term growth objectives
  • Contribute to the Investments strategy and objective setting regarding human capital management throughout the entire business planning and implementation cycle
  • Partner with the business to provide strategy, tactics and implementation of plans to drive measureable progress on employee engagement, diversity & inclusion, and organization culture.
  • Partner with respective Investment leadership teams to develop the leadership pipeline and succession planning efforts through coaching, counseling, and learning & development efforts
  • Lead core HR processes (compensation planning, performance management, talent reviews & succession planning)
  • Provide leadership and direction on HR related M&A activities (from due diligence through cultural and operational integration)
  • Leverage HR centers of expertise to deliver full suite of HR capabilities and resources that support the achievement of business and enterprise goals
  • Responsible for integration and application of policy across all of Investments with emphasis on both tactical and strategic components. Ensure compliance with all pertinent HR-related laws and regulations
  • Serve as a member of the HR Advisory Board, a small group selected by the Chief Human Resources Officer to provide input on HR goals and strategy

Candidate Qualifications:

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 15+ years of professional HR experience within financial services, specifically asset management, with expertise across a broad spectrum of strategic talent-related areas such as talent planning and management, talent acquisition, compensation planning, organizational design, diversity and inclusion, etc.
  • Accomplished change management leader; experience leading organizations successfully through business and cultural transformation
  • Experience  working globally and familiarity with cultures outside of the US
  • High organizational intelligence, able to operate effectively in a highly matrixed environment
  • Executive level presentation, written, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with senior management, HR leadership, peers, and Centers of Excellence globally to broker services for clients and to participate positively and actively in the HR global network
  • Strong problem-solving skills in support of senior management in working through a path to the delivery of goals & initiatives as it relates to people
  • Strong analytical  skills – leverages data to support decision making and to develop solutions
  • Undergraduate degree required, other advanced degree preferred
  • Certifications such SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, or PHR/SPHR/GPHR preferred
