Role Value Proposition: 

The Pension Investment Unit (PIU) is responsible for the analysis and investment processes related to the portfolio management of MetLife’s approximately $21 billion of qualified and Non-Qualified benefit plan assets.

    

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Assist with the development and implementation of investment strategies for all benefit plans.
  • Assist in Asset Liability Management (ALM) studies with investment consultant and Actuarial.
  • Develop, and revise when necessary, Investment Policy Statements (“IPS”), proposing asset allocation targets that best defense the benefit plans’ respective liabilities. Ensure compliance with IPS.
  • Direct third-party manager selection and due diligence for the fixed income component of the Pension Plan.
    • For new hires, develop recommendations for Investment Advisory Committee to review and approve.
  • Monitor and review all aspects of assigned investment managers including but not limited to investment performance, portfolio  holdings, organization, personnel, investment process and peer analysis.
  • Negotiate, and revise when necessary, investment manager guidelines for new and existing mandates.
  • Assist in preparing periodic reports for various benefit committees.
  • Participate and represent MetLife in pension industry conferences and symposiums.
  • Complete frequent ad-hoc assignments and research projects, including periodic asset reviews and reports.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Strong interest in financial markets and asset management and working knowledge of multiple investment strategies
  • Organized, detail-oriented and able to prioritize multiple projects
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others across multiple departments and teams
  • Highly motivated team player and ability to work independently as a self-starter

 

 

Required:

  • At least 5 years pension/endowment/foundation experience, ideally in third-party fixed income manager oversight and ALM concepts
  • Quantitative and analytical skill set
  • Fixed Income Modeling

     

 

Preferred:

  • MBA strongly preferred
  • Willingness to work in collaborative environment
  • CFA, preferred
