The Role:

The incumbent will report to the Head of Global Operational Risk Management (ORM) Framework & Corporate Functions, and support the overall IT Risk Management program.  Specifically, the IT Risk Management AVP will partner closely with the Global Technology organization and other risk and control assurance functions to identify, assess and oversee technology and cybersecurity risks.  The successful candidate will be responsible to assist in establishing and overseeing MetLife’s IT Risk Management Framework and performing risk assessment activities globally.  The candidate will need deep experience with identification and management of technology risks through large scale transformation.  In addition, the candidate will be responsible for defining appropriate IT risk and control metrics to enable effective monitoring and management of technology risks posed by the Company’s business activities and operations. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a technology risk advisor to key stakeholders in the 1st and 2nd lines of defense
  • Establish effective governance and oversight over IT and cybersecurity risks
  • Ensure ongoing alignment of MetLife’s IT Risk Management Framework with industry frameworks (NIST, COBIT, ISO, etc.) & MetLife’s ERM Framework; evaluate adherence to non-financial risk related Policies and Standards
  • Coordinate and lead facilitation of technology risk assessments which includes managing walkthroughs, identification and evaluation of risks and controls, and reporting outcomes to senior management
  • Assist with identifying existing and emerging technology risks and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor status of technology related issues, and advise/validate completion of associated remediation plans
  • Partner with technology leaders to develop IT risk metrics, thresholds and escalation process 
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional strategic and tactical projects
  • Remain current with industry operational risk trends and regulatory areas of focus

  • Reports to: VP Operational Risk Framework, Governance & Reporting
  • Direct reports/team: No direct reports
  • Key Stakeholders:  Chief Technology Officer, Chief Information Officer, Chief Information Security Officer and GTO Business Controls


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Risk Management, Accounting, Finance, or other related disciplines
  • Professional designation preferred (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CDP, CISA, CIA, CERA, etc.)
  • Prior experience working in the financial services industry, preferably an insurer
  • Deep understanding of industry IT risk and control frameworks (e.g. NIST, COBIT, ISO, UCF)
  • 12+ year(s) of experience in any of the following fields: IT, Information Security, Audit, Operational Risk
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to perform root-cause analysis and recommend corrective action
  • Proactive, intellectually curious, operate with a sense of urgency
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop strong business relationships, partner and coordinate in a cross-functional environment
