The Affiliated Insurance Companies Investment Management (AIC IM) group is responsible for the development of investment and asset-liability management strategies for MetLife’s general account portfolio, which totals more than $450 billion in assets.  AIC IM oversees the management of MetLife’s existing asset portfolio and provides support to line of business partners on new business pricing.  AIC IM has regional offices in Whippany, NJ, Hong Kong, London, and Santiago as well as investment professionals located in multiple country offices. The Associate role is part of the AIC IM team and is responsible for developing investment strategy and providing new business pricing support to MetLife line of business partners.  The Associate will partner closely with representatives from RIS and Group Benefits businesses to design optimal investment strategies in support of new business opportunities and growth. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Support the annual plan process by:
    • partnering with MIM to gather requirements, investment assumptions and asset production limits and
    • running portfolio optimizations and compiling various reports with the results.
  • Develop investment strategies via portfolio optimization analysis, maximizing risk-adjusted return within guideline and other constraints.
  • Present plan investment strategy, sensitivities, and scenario analysis to AIC partners and management, including Global Risk Management, Finance, and MIM.
  • Maintain/improve existing models such as Pricing Guidance, Portfolio Optimization and Margin models.
  • Support AIC IM team on strategic projects aimed at increasing portfolio profitability and/or mitigating portfolio risks.
  • Partner with Investments IT to develop new models (prototype to end-user) in support of investment decision making.
  • Lead development of and/or present investment-related presentation materials to AIC management.
  • Lead model-related responses, develop materials and respond to requests for information from AIC, our line of business partners and MIM.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills


  • Strong quantitative skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, MS SQL Server.
  • Experience in programming with VBA/Visual Basic or C# and using Visual Studio.
  • Excellent communication and prioritization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build partnerships and work in a team environment.
  • 2 to 5 years work experience at an insurance company or in financial services industry


  • MBA or CFA preferred.
  • Asset-liability management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Math, or related field
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, less structured environment.
