Institutional Client Group:

The Institutional Client Group is responsible for driving the firm’s strategy and business development efforts with institutional investors and consultants, globally. The Product Strategy team, part of MetLife Investment Management’s (MIM’s) Institutional Client Group, creates and implements strategic plans related to MIM’s global product agenda, with a mandate to deliver products that support both clients’ needs and business growth objectives. The team also serves as a critical connector for MIM’s stakeholders across investment, sales, client services, legal, operations, finance, and risk and compliance teams to ensure their alignment with business priorities.



As the Director Product Development you will support the broad activities of the Product Strategy team. Key responsibilities include product and market research; competitive analysis; facilitation of product approvals and launch processes; and assessment of the health of the current product line-up. You will also be involved in driving consensus and conclusions in relation to product strategy across multiple functions, geographies, and stakeholders.



Key Responsibilities:  

  1. Product Research and Competitive Analysis
    • Support research initiatives that enhance new product development, existing product positioning and business strategy decision making
    • Conduct analysis to assess product viability, including demand, profitability, and scalability dimensions
    • Partner with investment and distribution teams to build new product business cases; combine internal and external data sources to optimize insights
    • Create due diligence reports that analyze competitors’ product ranges
    • Produce generic and ad hoc studies focused on the industry landscape and product trends
    • Help maintain team’s research resource inventory


  1. Product Launch and Governance
    • Help manage a transparent and disciplined new product approval process, including facilitation of MIM New Product Committee meetings; creation of due diligence materials for Committee review; and maintenance of Committee records
    • Support the product implementation process, coordinating launch activities across multiple stakeholders
      • Analyze and document activities required for product launch; ensure deadlines for related deliverables are met
    • Partner with multiple functional teams to establish product sales strategy, financial projections, and operational readiness
    • Maintain key reference documents related to new product initiatives and the existing product suite
    • Support international regions’ product approval processes, as needed
    • Help shape the evolution of the product governance framework


  1. Product Management
    • Monitor ongoing assessment of the health of the existing product line-up
      • Identify strengths, weaknesses and gaps in the current product line-up
      • Understand the financial impact and capacity consumption of various strategies and products
      • Provide recommendations on updates to product line-up
    • Assess competitive positioning of the firm and product relative to current and evolving market demands

Candidate Qualifications:

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 10+ years of financial services and/or consulting experience
  • Strong organization and analytical skills with an affinity for data analysis
  • Firm understanding of statistics and performance analytics
  • Ability to define and implement initiatives that have multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships across business units
  • Self-motivated with a lateral-thinking, creative and inquisitive mind


  • Investment management industry a plus
  • Experience with international investment product development a plus
  • Experience with insurance asset management a plus
  • Financial modeling experience preferred
  • MBA and/or CFA designation preferred
  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint
