MIM’s Insurance Asset Management group is responsible for the overall portfolio management of the MetLife’s General Account Assets (~$467 billion AUM) and supports MIM’s Insurance Asset Management business. MIM has unaffiliated insurance investors globally with approximately $194 billion in AUM invested across all MIM strategies.  The Insurance Asset Management group provides value added capabilities including strategic asset allocation, portfolio optimizations and other insurance advisory services.


The Role:

MetLife Investment Management (MIM) is seeking a senior client portfolio manager to join its Insurance Asset Management group to provide coverage for third party insurance asset management clients. In this role as the Client Insurance Portfolio Specialist, Insurance Asset Management, you will act as the primary investments contact for third party insurance clients and lead efforts on insurance portfolio strategies and support portfolio solutions. You will be responsible for client engagement, partnering with MIM Institutional Client Group (ICG), Insurance portfolio management and Insurance Advisory team in representing the full spectrum of MIM’s asset product offering.  You will also partner with MIM’s asset specialists and portfolio management teams globally to develop and implement portfolio strategies to grow both existing and new client relationships. Working closely with the insurance portfolio management and Advisory team, you will help formulate customized portfolio solutions and investment strategies for insurance clients. Additionally, you will partner with the ICG to support the development and maintenance of insurance client relationships as well as product development. 




Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as primary investments point of contact with insurance clients and coordinate all portfolio related questions; engage investments teams when deeper dive is necessary
  • Proactively engage with insurance clients to understand portfolio objectives and constraints
  • Support MIM asset sector specialists in managing to guideline constraints including liaising with client on gain/loss limits, guideline breaches, trading concerns and overall portfolio requirements
  • Support cross-selling of MIM platform across investment sectors, teaming with ICG and sector specialists
  • Partner with ICG in on new prospect leads, and support ICG in building and maintaining strategic client relationships
  • Lead and support client portfolio reviews coordinating with asset sector specialists as needed
  • Answer ad hoc questions regarding the portfolio such as impairments, headlines, downgrades, as well as insurance specific issues, such as capital impact and regulatory concerns
  • Work closely with MIM teams to ensure good, effective communication between client, IPS and PMs

Candidate Qualifications:

   Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 10-15+ years insurance industry and related asset management experience
  • Strong understanding of insurance industry and insurance balance sheets, investment objectives and constraints; deep understanding of US regulatory environment, Bermuda and Canada a plus
  • Previous experience in managing insurance portfolios across multiple return and financial priority metrics preferable
  • Strong quantitative and technical expertise, previous experience in building portfolio optimization tools, portfolio construction and hedging strategies for insurance portfolios is a requirement
  • Strong understanding of fixed income and equity investments and how they fit in insurance portfolios in varying regulatory regimes
  • Strategic investment perspective, able to research and formulate opinions/conclusions leading to formulate strategies and recommendations
  • Strong team building and organizational skills, established success in partnering with diverse teams to contribute to MIM growth 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, able to present topic to internal and external clients
