The Affiliated Insurance Companies Investment Management (AIC IM) group is responsible for the development of investment and asset-liability management strategies for MetLife’s general account portfolio, which totals more than $450 billion in assets.  AIC IM oversees the management of MetLife’s existing asset portfolio and provides support to line of business partners on new business pricing.  AIC IM has regional offices in Whippany, NJ, Hong Kong, London, and Santiago as well as investment professionals located in multiple country offices. The Associate role is part of the AIC IM team and is responsible for developing investment strategy and providing new business pricing support to MetLife line of business partners.  The Associate will partner closely with representatives from RIS and Group Benefits businesses to design optimal investment strategies in support of new business opportunities and growth. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead development of detailed investment strategy via portfolio optimization analysis, maximizing risk-adjusted return within risk constraints.
  • Partner with MetLife Investment Management (MIM) to identify attractive investment opportunities in support of pricing / investment strategy.
  • Present investment strategy, sensitivities, and scenario analysis to AIC partners and management, including Global Risk Management, Finance, and line of business representatives.
  • Monitor and oversee investment performance and key risk / return metrics on an actual vs. expected basis.
  • Support US Business AIC IM team on strategic projects aimed at increasing portfolio profitability and/or mitigating portfolio risks.
  • Using quantitative tools such as Blackrock Aladdin and Bloomberg, evaluate cash flow, key rate duration, and ALM profiles of new business pricing strategies vs. liabilities.
  • Participate in Annual Plan process, including providing guidance on potential attractive asset needs in support of new business pricing.
  • Present and obtain approval through ALM governance process (ALM Working Groups, ALM Committees, etc.) of shifts in new business investment / pricing strategy.
  • Lead development of and/or present investment-related presentation materials to senior pricing approval committees.
  • Design hedging strategies in connection with new business opportunities and partner with MIM on implementation.
  • Lead investment-related responses, develop materials, etc for Requests for Information (RFI) / Requests for Proposal (RFPs) from consultants and potential clients in connection with new business opportunities.
  • Partner with MIM on evaluation of asset-in-kind proposals and asset-in-kind onboarding.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills


  • Strong quantitative skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Asset-liability management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build partnerships and work in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, less structured environment.


  • MBA or CFA preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Math, or related field.
  • 2 to 5 years work experience at an insurance company or in financial services industry.
  • Experience using BlackRock/ Aladdin and Bloomberg systems.
