The Derivatives / Global Rates Team is dedicated to creating and delivering solutions that support growth and improve the Company’s profitability through its use of derivatives strategies to solve Asset Liability Management challenges. The team works with portfolio managers to develop strategies and to execute trades in the rates, currency, equity, and credit areas of the derivatives markets.  Strategies include asset liability management, managing the currency risk of specific assets and liabilities, and using credit derivatives to help manage credit exposures.  The Team also functions as an internal derivative consulting group and provides quantitative derivatives solutions to many groups across MetLife.


The Associate will have the opportunity to work closely with other members of the Derivatives/Global Rates Team within the interest rate and currency derivatives space.  This will involve trade idea generation, trade execution, and working with senior traders on the team to report on positions and risks of the rate and currency derivative positions. The ideal candidate will have experience with derivatives broadly, and with currency/rate derivatives specifically.  This would include how the instruments are constructed, executed, and used in a buy-side asset management framework. 


Key Responsibilities:  

  • Assist with execution in the currency and rate derivative market, both OTC and cleared, including products such as futures, swaps, and forwards.
  • Work closely with MIM Asset Sectors to provide pricing on prospective originiation.
  • Oversee reporting and audit process for interest rate and currency derivative positions for completeness, accuracy, and content.
  • Recommend new or enhanced reports and processes.
  • Monitoring and reporting on developments within the rate and currency markets.
  • Prepare pre-trade analysis, position reporting, and ad-hoc risk analysis.
  • Work with Operations on issues related to trade confirmations, settlement, and valuation.
  • Partner with IT on system enhancements and upgrades.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • Minimum of 2 years related experience required.
  • Experience with derivatives instrument types, particularly within rates/currency.
  • Excellent communication skills; Ability to express complicated methodologies to the business.
  • Must be detail-oriented with strong time management/prioritization skills and ability to work independently is essential.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Finance or Quantitative Discipline is required. 


  • Demonstratable programming skills and knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, VBA, and/or R preferred.
  • Experience with 3rd party execution platforms including Bloomberg and TradeWeb preferred.
  • Experience with BlackRock Aladdin, Murex, and Numerix preferred.
  • MBA or CFA designation preferred.
