Associate Director, Variable Annuity Hedging

Role Value Proposition: 

The Derivative trading desk trades / manages nearly a $400 billion notional derivatives portfolio with $300+ billion notional of annual volume.  The desk is responsible for trade idea generation, execution, and general derivatives & hedging advisory activity.  The VA Hedging Programs’ managers and derivatives traders work closely with various groups across Investments and Line of Business to hedge the market risks associated with the life and retirement products that MetLife offers to policy holders.

 

The VA/EIA hedging program manager / derivative trader will work with the existing team and have responsibility for designing, implementing and engaging derivative hedges primarily for the Variable Annuity & FIA Hedging Programs, International Subsidiaries and secondarily the US General Account. 

 

Over time it is expected that the derivatives trader will assume primary responsibility for a portion of the Variable Annuity hedging programs under the direction and supervision of the Global Head of Variable Annuity and Equity linked Structure Products Hedging.    

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Work with Global Head of Variable Annuity Hedging in managing VA hedging programs
  • Derivatives execution, trade booking and post trade processes management
  • Development and implementation of hedging strategies and solutions
  • Development of relationships with Line of Business, external sell-side traders and salespeople
  • VA and Equity Linked Insurance Product Pre-hedging and Pre-trade analysis and modeling
  • Monitoring risk positions, managing VA programs’ risk exposures within guidelines; responsible for hedging program hedge-able P&L
  • Attend and present at Annuity Products’ hedging and trader meetings

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • Undergraduate degree and Fellowship of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation with Variable Annuity and Fixed (Equity) Index Annuity product knowledge
  • Strong record of success in Variable Annuity/Equity Linked Insurance Product Development or Product Oversight or VA Hedging or Managing Funds supporting Insurance VA or other Products 
  • 5+ years of experience within Insurance Company; Combined 10+ years in Insurance Company or Insurance Variable Annuity or Equity Linked Insurance Products, Risk Management, Product Development/Oversight or Asset Liability Management related business.
  • Prior Insurance Company working experience / exposure to Insurance Company Risk management  or Product Development or Hedging work flows
  • Strong Knowledge of  interest rate and equity derivative hedging instruments

Preferred:

  • Master in Business Administration degree (or comparable) or Mathematics/Science
  • Direct experience in developing Insurance Company Variable Annuity and FIA hedging solutions
  • Prior working experience involving in Insurance Company Variable Annuity and FIA Product Design or Asset Liability Management or Risk Management or closely related business areas
  • Prior experience and strong knowledge in Fund Overlay Trading or Active Management of Volatility controlled/CPPI Fund
  • Prior experience as a derivatives trader or derivatives salesperson / structurer; Equity and Interest Rate Option trading experience
  • Knowledge and experience in programing and coding
