MetLife seeks an Investment Associate to join our private equity unit (PEU) managing more than $15 billion of assets on behalf of our general account and affiliated and unaffiliated entities. The Investment Associate position is a unique opportunity to work directly with senior management in a small, flat investment organization that has generated strong long-term returns for its constituents. MetLife’s portfolio is invested globally across a broad range of private equity sub sectors, including buyouts, venture capital, growth equity, energy, distressed debt, secondary funds, and equity co-investments.


Key Responsibilities 

  • Assist and participate in fund and equity co-investment due diligence, including review of dataroom, detailed portfolio review and analysis, and fundamental research of portfolio holdings.
  • Prepare investment memos and presentations for investment committee.
  • Meet with existing GPs to evaluate investment progress, team/organizational changes, and strategy, and to receive updates on the state of the markets and potential investment opportunities.
  • Assist in the completion of sector reviews for our Distressed, Buyout, and Venture Capital portfolio segments.
  • Analyze and monitor existing portfolio relationships through annual meeting attendance and monitoring of quarterly reports.
  • Source and track new opportunities with external investment managers.
  • Train and mentor junior staff members.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills 

Required:

  • 4-6 years of Financial Services experience
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in the due diligence, selection, monitoring and management of private equity fund investments.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative and interpersonal skills with ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Detail-oriented individual with keen focus on performance and results.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or similar analytical/quantitative field; MBA, CAIA and/or CFA is preferred.
