The Finance Associate will be a critical position supporting a commercial real estate equity portfolio owned by MetLife’s general account and other institutional investors. The Associate will support the Head of Credit, Ratings & Analytics and the Associate Director, Equity Analytics in developing and communicating projected and actual portfolio performance, including property and portfolio level income, balances and regulatory capital requirements. The Associate will assist with ongoing system and process development aimed at improving efficiency and information quality. The Associate will also assist in special projects related to portfolio management.  The portfolios directly influenced by this role currently total $25 Billion in assets under management, with annual transaction activity of over $2 Billion. 


Key Responsibilities:  

  • Support annual and ongoing equity financial projections, incorporating new business strategy assumptions, expected returns, asset purchases and sales, and projected risk-based capital requirements. Project and communicate portfolio GAAP and STAT balances, net investment income and required capital, including the impact of investment sales, purchases and transaction structures.
  • Support internal and external quarterly reporting activities, including portfolio performance commentary, net income, investment balances and assets under management.
  • Provide regular portfolio updates to Real Estate and Investments Senior Management. Support preparation of quarterly narratives for earnings calls and financial reports.  Execute numerous highly visible and time sensitive ad hoc analyses.
  • Provide critical information required for third-party requests, including business information for Insurance regulators, Insurance Analysts, Rating Agencies, and senior management.
  • Responsible for identifying and implementing data and process changes to improve reliability of forecasts and reports.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 3+ years of relevant work experience with investments analytics, accounting or equity real estate investments
  • Candidate should have excellent analytical, project management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing with all levels of management
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in fast-paced work environment
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI and databases



  • Bachelor’s degree and Masters
  • Familiarity with commercial real estate joint venture and fund accounting preferred
