Role Value Proposition:

 

The Assistant Counsel will support attorneys on a broad range of transactional and operational matters for the Investments Law unit of Legal Affairs to drive effectiveness and efficiency in the delivery of legal services to MetLife Investment Management. 

 

 Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide support on secondary transactions and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Prepare ancillary transaction documentation and review amendments, waivers and consents.
  • Maintain document templates and repositories.
  • Assist on subsidiary reporting updates and submissions.
  • Coordinate with paralegals and other internal constituencies on procedures and transaction deliverables.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

 

Required:

  • JD and excellent academic credentials from an ABA-accredited school.
  • Interest and/or coursework in finance, corporate law and investments. 
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a limited license if not already appropriately licensed in NJ.
  • A strong work ethic, willingness to learn and customer-service mentality.
  • Demonstrated legal, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work in an environment that emphasizes information sharing, collaboration, teamwork, mutual respect and integrity.

 

Preferred:

  • 1+ years of experience in a national or regional law firm, insurance company or other financial services institution.
  • Experience in finance, corporate law and/or investment transactions.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one state and a member in good standing of a bar.
