The Role:

The Assistant Vice-President of Human Resources for MetLife Auto & Home is the senior HR business partner for MetLife’s property and casualty business and a member of the US Business and Investments HR senior leadership team.  MetLife Auto & Home (MLAH) is the 17th largest auto insurer and 13th largest home owner insurance company in the United States.  The organization is comprised of 3,000 associates serving 2.5 million customers, with a presence in 51 states and territories.  MetLife Auto & Home is the number one Group Auto & Home insurer in the U.S., serving 75% of the Fortune 100 companies.  The foundational principles of MetLife’s enterprise strategy -- One MetLife, Digital, Simplified -- inspire and inform the MLAH journey to transform the customer experience, our products, technology platform, and culture to be a leading insurance provider. 


The HR business partner role is responsible for co-leading transformation including organization design, culture, talent, and workforce planning across distribution channels, product line management, pricing, underwriting, market strategy, product development, strategic initiatives, and claims operations.  Managing a team of 3 direct reports in support of the function, he/she will provide HR leadership, strategic consulting and guidance to this senior management team.  This position partners with colleagues across functional organizations, HR Centers of Expertise to deliver in the areas of HR data analytics, compensation, learning and development, talent management and acquisition, diversity & inclusion in support of business goals.


 Key Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as lead HR Business Partner working with the MetLife Auto & Home senior leadership team to influence business priorities and strategies. (Actively engage in business meetings, cross-functional initiatives, execution sessions, and strategic planning workshops)
  2. Provide senior level partnership, advice, consultation on business matters to drive organizational effectiveness and strengthen culture.
  3. Develop and implement a human capital plan that supports the short and long term MLAH business strategy, enterprise initiatives, and achievement of overall business objectives.
  4. Partner with the business to provide strategy, tactics and implementation of plans to drive measureable progress on employee engagement, diversity & inclusion, and organization culture.
  5. Demonstrate understanding of the financial, technological, economic, and talent drivers of the business.
  6. Lead core HR processes (compensation planning, talent and succession planning, performance management).
  7. Analyze workforce data to determine key metrics & trends. Communicate findings to the business. Proactively identify risk and opportunities and lead actions to impact results.
  8. Partner with leadership teams to advance diversity & inclusion and develop the leadership and management pipeline.
  9. Leverage HR COEs to deliver full suite of HR capabilities and resources that support the achievement of business and enterprise goals.
  10. Coach and develop direct reports to enhance and improve professional effectiveness through capability development including consultation, collaboration, change management, and strategic coordination.
  11. Ensure business adherence to policies and laws pertaining to employment in the workplace.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 15+ years of professional HR experience in a matrixed environment driving large scale transformation
  • Strong strategic business acumen with leadership experience gained from complex industries that have undergone transformation initiatives
  • Cultural change agent delivering results through empowerment, alignment, accountability and innovation.
  • Experience in driving business objectives while balancing risk and driving growth
  • Organizational design experience creating high value roles in an analytics driven environment
  • Accomplished change management leader, able to operate effectively in a global environment and to exhibit the necessary gravitas with senior leadership
  • Ability to build trusted relationships at all levels, resolve issues, and seek consensus among diverse groups of stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving skills in support of senior management in working through a path to the delivery of goals & initiatives
  • Strong analytical  skills – leverages data to support decision making and to develop solutions
  • Undergraduate degree required, MBA or other advanced degree preferred
  • Certifications such SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, or PHR/SPHR/GPHR preferred
