Summary of Responsibilities:

MetLife Japan’s IT Infrastructure organization (CTO) manages a large portfolio of projects.  As the leader of portfolio planning and governance, this role is responsible for ensuring that CTO’s portfolio is managed effectively.


In addition, this role is also responsible for CTO’s regular and ad-hoc management reporting.  This includes gathering of all input data, analysis and formatting of the data into the prescribed outputs, and clear communication of the key ideas and overall message.


As a member of the Infrastructure Planning & Strategy department, this role may also contribute to goal setting, resource allocation, talent management, hiring, employee engagement activities, process improvement and many other ad-hoc tasks.


Dimensions of Position

  • This is an individual contributor role within the IT Infrastructure Division (CTO)

  • Requires ability to effectively collaborate with many different stakeholders both without and outside of IT and at many levels of the organization as a trusted partner

  • The portfolio under management is around 3b yen annually and approximately 20 projects


Principal Responsibilities:

  • Manage project demand intake and coordinate with other stakeholders
  • Oversee project management processes to ensure infrastructure projects are completed within committed timeframe and budget by conducting Process Quality Review and Gate Review
  • Coordinate project status reporting
  • Ownership of project management processes, training and best practice sharing
  • Act as a single point of contact representing Japan to global counterparts for projects and global initiatives
  • Facilitate the annual portfolio planning process by liaising with various stakeholders to clarify requirements and estimate resources and costs
  • Coordinate monthly and ad-hoc management reporting (KPIs, accomplishments, and other metrics)

  • Contribute to various other Planning and Strategy tasks, such as: goal planning, resource planning, employee engagement, training coordination, and more.


Knowledge/Skills/Competencies Required:

  • 5+ years experience in IT, preferably with a focus on Infrastructure

  • 3+ years experience with IT project management or governance

  • High level of competency in project management best practices

  • Proven success in a similar role

  • Good understanding of Infrastructure requirements, challenges and opportunities

  • Previous leadership experience preferred
