The Talent Japan team sits at the center of MetLife Japan’s organizational development and health. This team is the point of contact for, and driver of employee engagement and performance management processes, talent review, leadership development, diversity equity and inclusion, as well as learning and development for the entire firm. The development of human capital, and thus the Talent Japan team, has never been more important.

 

The Role:

It’s critical that the AVP Head of Talent Japan continues to refine the roles and responsibilities of the Talent Japan team, in accordance with the strategic and operational goals of MetLife Japan and Global Talent. It’s an exciting opportunity to work with regional and global SMEs, as well as MLJ leadership, in order to shape the leadership and organizational development goals, and implement MLJ-wide and global programs. As Talent Japan oversees many processes and programs that are of keen interest to leadership, the head of Talent Japan will be in regular communications with the CEO as well as business and function heads, with an opportunity to influence how MLJ’s Next Horizon strategy is implemented.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the Talent Japan team effectively, with an aim of maintaining high engagement; ensure strong relationships between Talent Japan team and other partners within HR Japan, such as HRBPs, C&B, TA, and HRSS.
  2. Lead, design, develop and deploy process, programs and activities related to leadership and organizational development by working closely with MLJ leadership to drive a top talent and employee engagement agenda. (e.g.: talent reviews, leadership development, employee survey results and recommendations, etc.)
  3. Lead, design, develop and deploy process, programs and activities related to DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion), by working closely with global, regional and local DEI experts.
  4. Ensure efficient and effective socialization and localization of global and regional programs (e.g.: DEI, manager and leader training, performance management employee survey, etc), by ensuring successful relationships and goals between Team Japan members and global/regional partners.
  5. Lead, design, develop and deploy company-wide learning and development programs that increase the business acumen, professional development and networking breadth of employees across MLJ.

 

Key Relationships:

  • Reports to: VP, Talent Lead EMEA & Asia, and VP HR Japan (Matrix)
  • Direct reports/team: 4 directs  
  • Key Stakeholders: MLJ leadership, MLJ HR, Global Talent and Global L&D 

 

Candidate Qualifications:

   Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in both written and spoken English and Japanese
  • At least 10 years of extensive experience and track record in L&D and Talent function in a multi-national organization.
  • In-depth knowledge of Performance Management, Talent Review/Succession Planning, Leadership/Management Development, Assessment tools including 360, Induction programs including on-boarding & Assimilation, Team effectiveness, Employee engagement, Language programs, L&D policies and procedures, Executive Coaching and Mentoring and team effectiveness.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – to deal with diverse client bases
  • Strong communication skills in both written/spoken Japanese and English
  • Broad knowledge on Human Resources Management
  • College degree or above
  • Certificates in psychometrics tools helpful
