Role Value Proposition: 

The position of SENIOR QUANTITATIVE ANALYST is responsible for setting up new hedge relationships and maintaining existing relationships for the purpose of quantitatively measuring hedge effectiveness and ineffectiveness by leveraging a vendor model. Obtaining passing hedge effectiveness statistics is critical to receiving preferential treatment of derivatives in MetLife’s reported financial results. The position also involves producing estimates of derivative gains (losses) and investment income, as well as performing estimates to actuals analysis. The position is part of the Investments Finance department and regularly interacts with the derivative front office, middle office, and back office accounting teams. It is a fast-paced, team-based environment involving complex derivative instruments, including approximately $300 billion notional amount of swaps, futures, and options.


Key Responsibilities:  

  • Set up new hedge relationships and maintain existing relationships in the financial model used to assess and measure hedge effectiveness . Interpret, troubleshoot, and debug quantitative regression results for hedge effectiveness.  
  • Model theoretical relationships to determine whether newly-proposed hedging strategies will produce strong statistical relationships. Perform analysis using vendor hedge effectiveness software, as well as business intelligence cubes and other financial tools such as Microsoft Access and SQL Server.
  • Produce estimates of derivative gains (losses) and investment income, as well as performing estimates to actuals analysis
  • Provide production support, address ad-hoc requests, and produce management reports and analyses
  • Systems include Excel, Access, SQL Server, Murex, Pyramid, PAM, PSGL, DRMS etc.
  • Reconcile reports in Excel and reconcile data items in various production systems. Demonstrate an ability to work with minimum supervision as well as improve ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines and attain maximum effectiveness


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in Finance or Quantitative role or in a related area
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, modeling, and written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working with financial models
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures


  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Quantitative discipline. Master’s degree and/or advanced certification (CFA, FRM etc.) highly desired. 
  • Knowledge of Fixed Income securities and Derivatives (valuation)
  • Ability to interpret statistical results, such as R-squared, slope, etc.
  • Programming experience and working knowledge of the following: VBA, SQL, C, and similar programming languages is plus.
