Role Value Proposition: 

This function supports Rate Action filing activities, develops, maintains and enhances metric reports to support operational activities within the Long Term Care (LTC) department.  Determines validity of data and provides supporting explanations of conclusions reached.  This function will be committed to delivering the highest level of service to internal customers within LTC departments and to external business partners.


Key Responsibilities:  

  • Microsoft Access database administration to track, analyze and report moderate to complex financial and operational metrics/information (i.e. projections, financials, ad-hoc reporting).
  • Database maintenance to ensure consistency in inputs; database enhancements/development to account for any functionality changes or a change in business needs/expectations.
  • Seeks automation opportunities to streamline and optimize existing and future reporting capabilities and automation of rate action filing materials and other reporting requirements/commitments.
  • Develops annual compliance filing capabilities to ensure consistency and accuracy with Department of Insurance (DOI) filing requirements.
  • Completes existing performance guarantee, compliance/state-required, and weekly/monthly/annual non-automated reporting requirements.
  • Compiles and analyzes operational and transactional data and creates high level reports of operational financial and performance results, including trend analysis, status of major initiatives, escalating issues, and potential solutions.
  • Provides reporting and analysis to line managers and creates or assists with executive summaries for senior management.
  • Presents results, analysis and potential solutions to management or senior staff.
  • Provides project management support to various initiatives by providing financial, work measurement, equipment/space planning, and metrics reporting support.
  • Manages and participates on projects that encompass both short and long term business planning.
  • May develop expense forecasts and operating budgets and track revenue factors for an operations organization.
  • Performs cost benefit analysis for re-engineering and technology initiatives and identifies expense reduction opportunities.
  • Performs thorough QA on solutions to ensure data integrity.
  • Finds creative and efficient solutions to merge data from multiple data sources.
  • Improves/eliminates existing tools used to track manual processes.
  • Partners with IT to obtain appropriate database and business intelligence software access.
  • Recommends metrics to track, how to measure, and the method in which data is tracked, stored and reported.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 5-6 years of related work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to learn independently and adapt to new technology.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to present/support findings in multiple settings to senior leadership.
  • Self-starter with the ability to learn quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment.



  • Strong business and technical skills to collect and analyze data, develop reports, present findings and recommend changes/enhancements to existing solutions/processes.
  • Ability to communicate to management and senior leadership – both written and verbal –in combination with strong project management /time management skills with a focus on attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple projects varying in complexity and expected completion dates.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Access, Word – preferably experienced with VBA, Macros, and Merge Field Coding.



  • Solid understanding of database structures, query writing and database tools (i.e. SQL Server Management Studio).
  • Experience developing reports using business intelligence tools (i.e. Cognos 8+, SSRS, etc.)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel  and Microsoft Access skills (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, VBA and Macros)
  • 3+ years writing complex SQL queries
  • 3+ years advanced analytics experience
  • 3+ years developing reports using Cognos 8+ Report Studio
  • Database development skills – preferably SQL Server
  • 3+ years ETL experience using SSIS
  • 3+ years of SharePoint development
