MetLife’s Operational Risk Management (“ORM”) function within Global Risk Management is responsible for the design and implementation of company-wide policies, frameworks and tools enabling appropriate management of non-financial risks throughout the organization.  ORM partners closely with various stakeholders across the enterprise to implement strong processes and effective controls, as well as to foster and embed a strong risk culture.


The Corporate Functions ORM team supports the priorities of MetLife’s Corporate Functions by partnering with senior management to ensure risk-informed business decision making.  This role will provide critical support working with corporate function leaders and other stakeholders in implementing and maintaining an effective non-financial risk framework in accordance with enterprise standards, designed to enable appropriate identification, monitoring and management of key non-financial risk exposures. 


The Lead Operational Risk Management Consultant will report to the Head of Corporate Functions ORM and play a key role in the implementation of MetLife’s Enterprise operational risk management framework within MetLife’s Corporate Finance organization. 


Key Responsibilities:  

  • Provide ORM coverage supporting Corporate Finance, operating as a strategic advisor
  • Ensure effective implementation of risk identification and assessment processes
  • Conduct deep dive assessments / gap analysis and document findings
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional strategic projects
  • Oversee loss data / risk event capture, analysis and escalation processes
  • Advise on risk mitigation strategies and oversee remediation of material issues
  • Partner with control organizations ensuring clearly defined reliance model, and roles and responsibilities
  • Collaborate with leadership on establishing fit-for-purpose key risk indicators (KRIs) / risk metrics
  • Provide guidance and challenge, overseeing design and adoption of the firm’s Third Party Risk Management (TPRM) framework and processes
  • Coordinate and collaborate, while building strong relationships, with Audit, Compliance, and other stakeholders as appropriate


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 5+ years of financial services experience; direct experience in risk management, audit or compliance a plus
  • Proactive, intellectually curious, operate with a sense of urgency
  • Strong knowledge of risk management best practices and emerging industry practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills, including ability to perform root-cause analysis and recommend corrective action
  • Accomplished change management leader, able to operate effectively in a highly matrix environment
  • Ability to develop strong business relationships, partner and coordinate in a cross-functional environment

The wage range for applicants for this position is $98,600 - 131,400. This role is also eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. MetLife offers a comprehensive benefits program, including healthcare benefits, life insurance, retirement benefits, parental leave, legal plan services and paid time off.
