Role Value Proposition

The UX Lead will be the lead designer for the digital servicing experience of the end customers of MetLife’s Employee Benefits business in the US. This person will be responsible for designing the right digital experiences to meet and exceed our customers’ needs and deliver on business goals as a member of the product team. The person will be responsible for how the digital servicing product feels to users by creating desirable and compelling experiences, based on deep understanding of users’ functional and emotional needs resulted from user research and workflow analysis.

 

As the lead designer, this person will also manage the operational aspects of design, including workflows, communication and collaboration among designers and other product team members. Managing a team of designers, (s)he will be responsible for consistency in experiences designed across MetLife’s digital servicing product.

 

The ideal candidate will have strong creative, technical and problem-solving skills. The person will create wireframes, sitemaps, user flows and prototypes to deliver tangible design solutions. The person will also apply brand and visual design elements to the digital design to increase clarity, communicate hierarchy and create emotion. (S)He will participate in all parts of the design process – fielding customer research, shaping strategy, generating divergent options, prototyping, developing, and iterating based on customer and stakeholder feedback. The person will also be proficient in Lean UX agile way of working, implementing functionality in minimum viable increments and determining success by measuring results against a benefit hypothesis.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Balances customer needs and business requirements to design customer-centered experiences
  • Performs hands-on design and manages a team of designers in order to:
    • Define information architecture and sitemaps of digital experiences based on experience strategy
    • Create user flows to define steps needed to achieve user goals
    • Design UI components leveraging the MetLife design system
    • Create wireframes to blueprint the information hierarchy and interactions of a digital experience
    • Create prototypes to explore and test design decisions
    • Oversees user testing to validate design decisions
    • Performs design quality assurance during development
  • Identifies priorities and streamlines communications for design teams
  • Coordinates schedules and manages product design documentation
  • Defines standards tools and processes for design team

 

Essential Business Experience & Technical Skills:

  • 6+ years of experience designing experiences across mobile apps and websites
  • Highly skilled in user experience fundamentals: research, wireframes, prototypes, usability testing
  • Strong knowledge of user interface design, interaction design, information architecture, visual design
  • Proficiency with Adobe XD. Figma and Sketch are a plus
  • Skills in CSS, Javascript and HRML a plus
  • Partners successfully with business analysts, other designers, content strategists and developers to arrive at optimal solutions
  • Comfortable designing leveraging a design system
  • Ability to create designs that can scale, and care for alternate scenarios
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Experience working in iterative processes and in an agile environment
  • Ability to lead a team of UX/UI designers

 

New Role:

This role is aligning to the Agile Delivery Model that is launching with US Group Business and will be hired within the business itself. It is focused on design thinking and Lean UX ways of working, which are new for MetLife and require different skill sets than we have hired for in the past.

The wage range for this position-specific to Colorado is $118,400 - $157,900. You may also be eligible for the MetLife Annual Variable Incentive Plan ("AVIP").  Your eligibility for an AVIP award is governed by the terms of the applicable plan or program documents.
