Role Value Proposition: 


This position is with the HR Benefit Finance team in MetLife’s actuarial line of business.  The team is responsible for the general financial management of the benefit plans that support MetLife employees including various pension, deferred compensation, medical, life and disability plans.  The team works with the HR, Legal, Accounting and Investment teams to provide financial analysis, projections and recommendations to senior leadership to maintain and enhance the financial security of these plans and MetLife employees.


Key Responsibilities: 


  • Forecast cost of all benefit programs for use in enterprise business planning activities
  • Calculate estimates relating to M&A and ad hoc requests arising due to benefit changes and corporate transactions
  • Identify trends and anomalies in data and support analysis of impact on costs  
  • Gather and collate monthly and quarterly information to support ongoing analysis and reporting of benefit plan costs and liabilities
  • Provide support for determination of attribution of expense changes
  • Work closely with various areas of MetLife to coordinate expense and cash allocations
  • Support Economic Capital, Embedded Value and other insurance specific valuation processes as they relate to the employee benefit plans
  • Coordinate and compile information to be presented to the company’s benefit governance committees


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Math, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of actuarial experience
  • Strong record of accomplishment managing and completing complex projects
  • Proficient in actuarial techniques and data analytics
  • Experience with basic accounting principles
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Strong technical, mathematical and analytical abilities
  • Strong written and oral communication skills



  • Pension accounting (Accounting Standards Codification 715) knowledge strongly preferred
