The US STAT Reporting group and Data Management, based in Tampa, FL, has an open position.  This dual role provides a challenging opportunity for a motivated individual to gain experience preparing U.S. Statutory basis financial statements and related filings, while forging partnerships with a broad range of finance functions, including controllers, fin ops, TAG, investments, tax, and actuarial. While also performing financial reporting support and be responsible for supporting monthly closes activities by producing several key financial reports along with various data mining and solving technical concerns for the various groups we support. In this dual role, you will learn STAT accounting concepts in all aspects of insurance accounting (ex: Reserves, Investments, Reinsurance) while also utilizing your technical skills to solve and improve various data management processes.  This person will have the ability to summarize and present financial data in an organized, concise manner. The role must be able to work independently and be able to interact with coworkers, various departments and all levels of senior management.  This role requires an independent, self-starter who can apply innovation to business processes, key reports, and cross-collaborative projects.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for timely and accurate reporting of Statutory financial results (Stat, Audit, MD&A, Filings)
  • Collects and analyzes financial data, ensuring that reporting is compliant with NAIC reporting regulations
  • May support financial analysis/reporting and the integrity of financial data by developing financial ad-hoc reports as needed, establishing controlled financial processes or providing technical support in the production of reports/analyses as needed.
  • Produce quarterly and annual files, including RBC
  • Play a key role in providing support for the annual audit and quarterly review activity with external and internal auditors
  • Assist with completing quarterly board slides
  • Communicate with Product, Corporate and Audit partners to discuss improvements, gather reporting requirements, and implement changes as needed to data files and reports
  • Complete and review Audit Checklists, Form B Filings and quarterly entries
  • Review of the ledger and subsequent follow up with groups that need to do additional entries
  • Research accounting rules and regulations to make recommendations regarding company policy
  • Perform various high-level analytical analyses over fluctuations in accounts and financial results
  • Continuously monitor, recommend, and implement process improvements to increase effectiveness

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • 3+ years’ experience in financial reporting and/or analytic role
  • Extensive and proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including but not limited to Vlookups, Hlookups, Sumifs, links, pivot tables, VBA, etc.
  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must have ability to analyze data and problem solve complicated transactions and or technical issues
  • Ability to plan, multi-task, prioritize responsibilities

 

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Statutory Insurance concepts, principles, and reporting
  • Strong and proficient technical skills
  • Ability to modify, develop and improve procedures and policies to meet reporting needs/requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience
