Role Value Proposition:

The Finance Investments Derivatives Back Office team handles all aspects of derivative accounting and reporting. Derivatives are an integral part of MetLife’s investment strategy, and the team provides accounting and regulatory reporting for GAAP, STAT, and local international standards as well operational controls. The representative will support all aspects of the team and be exposed to a wide range of derivative activity.

 

MetLife's Tampa office is responsible for many global company functions including all accounting, reporting, and analytics for its global investments portfolio. These investments include bonds, mortgage loans, private equity investments, and derivatives. The Investments Finance Group in Tampa is responsible for U.S. GAAP and U.S. Stat accounting and reporting associated with these investments and other activities of the companies. There is opportunity for significant career growth within the Tampa office and globally at the company. The Tampa office employs multiple company Senior Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, Assistant Vice Presidents, Directors, Managers, and other associates. Anyone working in MetLife's Investment Finance Group would have significant responsibility related to the accounting and reporting associated with MetLife's investment assets.

 

  Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the monthly and quarterly accounting close process, which includes manual accounting entries and account reconciliations for multiple derivative trade types.
  • Participate in the preparation of derivatives related financial results, including footnote disclosures for both GAAP and Statutory reporting.
  • Assist with the daily processing of accounting controls functions and reporting of monthly results of control processes.
  • Participate in the preparation of derivatives related financial results data requests as needed.
  • Actively work to streamline and improve processes and provide support for projects as needed.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • BS/BA in Accounting 
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and familiarity with financial statements, including balance sheet and income statements
  • Strong MS Excel, Word, Outlook skills
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Strong organizational and research skills
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Proactive in identifying and resolving issues

 

Preferred:

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience (in a supporting or lead role)
  • Experience with Derivative financial instruments
  • Familiarity with Alteryx, Murex, BI Publisher, and PeopleSoft Ledger
