Department: STAT FP&A sits within the Enterprise FP&A function in CAR/FMG.   Our group leads the projection, reporting and analysis of MetLife’s Statutory financial results, supporting the decision making of Senior Management including Treasurer, U.S.CFO, CRO, CFO, and CEO. Our groups mission is to provide timely and accurate information and analysis to senior management for impactful decision-making, by developing the company’s top financial talent and leveraging the best tools available. 


The Role: This position will lead the STAT projection & analysis team and will have the responsibility for producing projections, analysis and presenting to the CFO on a monthly basis. These projections would also be used in board reports, regulatory filings and rating agency presentations.  The position will work closely with the CFO organizations, Investments, Tax, Risk Management and Treasury as well as other areas to provide subject matter expertise on statutory matters.  The successful candidate will bring a combination of analytical and critical thinking, organizational and strong partnering skills to gain a wide understanding of the Enterprise results and leverage that understanding to create impactful presentations.  As part of these responsibilities, the individual in this role will have regular exposure to senior management.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Statutory Planning & Projection process by working closely with cross-functional partners
  • Provide in-depth analysis of Stat results along with attribution walks and present during the monthly review meetings with Treasurer and CFO
  • Lead the management reporting function for STAT projections including preparing material for Board, rating agency and regulatory presentations
  • Actively contribute to manage Capital for MetLife insurance entities with a focus on dividend payments and solvency ratios by working closely with Investments, Risk and treasury teams
  • Communicate significant issues/trends to senior management with concise recommendations for approval.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to support enterprise initiatives and material transactions.


Key Relationships:

  • Reports to: Vice President of STAT FP&A
  • Direct reports/team: None.  Significant interaction with other teams with a leadership expectation and indirect reporting relationships
  • Key Stakeholders: Investments, Tax, Actuarial, Treasury, Risk Management, GAAP FP&A; Significant interaction with head of Capital Strategy, Treasurer, U.S. CFO and Enterprise CFO


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Experience in Financial analysis and management reporting
  • STAT experience is a plus but not required
  • Able to interpret complex results and provide appropriate analysis
  • Ability to develop strong partnerships with cross functional teams across different levels and able to offer succinct guidance and expectations and ability to better understand product results
  • Strong Knowledge of insurance products
  • Success in running multiple processes at same time and meet tight deadlines for Senior Management
  • Strong written and preparation skills to present results in succinct manner to senior management
  • Strong Excel, PowerPoint, Word skills; Alteryx / Power BI knowledge is a plus
  • Undergraduate degree required, MBA or other advanced degree preferred
  • CFA/ASA/FSA designation a plus
