POSITION TITLE: Assistant Vice President, Employee Engagement and Projects, Asia

This role sits in the Regional Communications Asia team within Global Communications in Corporate Affairs. Global Communications functions as a business partner to drive the global communications strategy for the company and ensure message consistency across all internal and external audiences. Global Communications is also responsible for developing the communication strategy and executing communication tactics for the Americas, Asia, EMEA, Global Employee Benefits and as well as the Corporate Functions. As part of this responsibility, the organization partners with MetLife's Executive Group members to develop strategic communications. Within Global Communications, the Asia regional team plays a strategic role for the Enterprise in driving the communications agenda across the region to support the delivery of business objectives.

The AVP Employee Engagement and Projects, Asia is an experienced communications professional who serves as a partner to Human Resources and provides strategic counsel, strategy and support on employee engagement. The role also acts as a business partner and strategic counsel to the Global Employee Engagement team to deliver global and regional employee communications projects. This individual also serves as the key owner for the regional intranet platform and for the tracking and delivery of internal metrics across the function in Asia.

THE ROLE:

This role has been revised following the new organizational structure for the Asia Communications function, and now reflects the expanded scope and responsibilities required of the incumbent. The AVP will report to the VP, Asia Communications.

 

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • developing and delivering a strong, coordinated, and cohesive communications strategy to engage all employees of MetLife Asia in understanding and caring about the company and its success
  • acting as a business partner and senior counsel to Human Resources both in facilitating their communications to employees as well as creating and delivering a relevant communications strategy for HR senior leadership in Asia

  • working closely with AVP Business Communications to identify and deliver relevant speaking platforms and media opportunities to promote the company’s expertise in Human Resources in order to enhance the company’s overall reputation as well as attract and retain top talent

  • utilizing the strength of the MetLife Foundation to propagate the culture of the company and enhance the employer brand for both current and potential employees

  • creating, tailoring, and delivering content for all internal channels

  • coordinating, advising, and delivering measurable value on the company’s employer brand, including progress towards best-in-class for diversity and inclusion

  • working closely with HR, the country communications teams, country and regional OHAT, and senior leadership to deliver improvement on the region’s organisational health, visible in its Organisational Health Survey results

  • tailoring global and regional projects for easy and effective delivery by Communications teams across all countries

  • innovating and delivering effective employee engagement products and activities

  • working closely with all the country Communications heads to promote internally the country achievements at a regional and global level, as applicable

  • working closely with the Manager, Channels and Operations to monitor and deliver target metrics for employee engageme

  • delivering MetLife Foundation and CSR events

  • working closely with the Manager, Channels and Operations to manage and deliver internal events and engagement activities

  • supporting the Manager, Channels and Operations to manage the performance, quality and delivery of external agencies providing support for engagement activities

 

This individual must be able to analyze country and business strategy, develop communication plans and execute them through influence and guidance of internal parties. In addition to directly supporting Human Resources, this AVP engages and directs Communications in the countries in an active and collaborative communication planning and implementation process to drive employee engagement across the region. This individual must understand and manage the complexities of building and expanding relationships across a wide range of stakeholder groups and be able to distill global and regional projects into user-friendly, low-resource, highly effective employee engagement tools for the countries.

The AVP also has the ability to understand and operate across diverse cultures and provide impactful advice that helps all employees to speak with conviction about the company, and to interact with individuals outside Communications who provide communication support to leaders.

Other Key Stakeholders: SVP HR; Chair of Asia D&I Council; Director, Financial Empowerment; internal network of content sources; AVP Business Communications; Manager, Channel and Operations; country Heads of Communications.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development and execution of strategic internal communications plans that support objectives and shape positive business outcomes through engaging employees in the success of the company
  • Provide executive communications support to Asia’s business leaders
  • Provide counsel to senior leaders on engagement communications strategies and secure buy-in on approaches
  • Simplify complex ideas and strategies for internal audiences
  • Create and maintain a network of internal influencers
  • Work effectively through shared processes with others at all levels within the organization
  • Effectively manage and deliver communication through a variety of channels including current and emerging communications technology
  • Manage external agencies

 

Travel Requirements: 10% of time
