Within Global Risk, Compliance Risk Management (CRM) provides for shared ownership of risk management and better coordination of risk prioritization across the company.  CRM is responsible for designing and delivering a framework to help MetLife embed compliance and ethical behavior standards in business processes while enabling performance and growth.  In its role as a strategic advisor, CRM focuses on existing and emerging risks, partnering constructively with the businesses and functions to implement strong processes, establish effective controls, and foster a culture of compliance.  CRM monitors regulatory and industry trends and changes in order to develop and implement appropriate global and regional policies and procedures.


The Global Sales Practices Unit (GSPU) within CRM is responsible for the effective implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of global compliance programs for MetLife businesses relating to Sales Practice and Customer Benefits Payment compliance risks. This individual contributor position is responsible for carrying out global obligations with respect to the function of the GSPU and relevant company policies and compliance with applicable international and local laws/regulations and fair treatment of customers. The role entails supporting compliance teams globally with sales practice and customer benefits payment risk mitigation, remediation, and compliance risk management efforts.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and maintain global policies, supporting guidelines & procedures.  Partner with local compliance and Business in its effective implementation.
  • Partner with and advise the business on their Non-Financial Risk Assessment, providing review and challenge where appropriate.
  • Develop & implement training and awareness initiatives.  Onboard new local compliance officers provide ongoing guidance and support on sales practice and customer benefit payment matters.
  • Conduct ongoing independent risk assessments.  Conduct onsite/virtual reviews of targeted markets. Partner with the Business in the development of their action plans to mitigate any identified gaps.
  • Monitor Key Risk Indicators (KRI), create reports, provide analysis to illustrate trends.   Contribute data-driven strategies, conduct data analysis and surveillance activities to proactively identify issues.
  • Conduct reviews of new and changed Products. 


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:



  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
  • 7+ years’ experience, ideally in compliance risk management in life insurance or banking.
  • Existing and evolving sales practice techniques and products create an atmosphere which requires strong technical knowledge, analytical abilities, and integrative thinking to identify, assess, and elaborate on potential risks to both the Company and the customer.  Emerging sales concepts will provide ongoing challenges, as they may not be covered by standards and/or precedents.
  • Communication: Ability to deal effectively with people at all levels of authority up to and including officer levels. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Maintenance of confidentiality in all Company-related activities. Promote a positive environment, which is conducive to top performance. Multilingual a plus.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively across Compliance and other business lines and enterprise functions.



  • Project management skills.
  • Advanced experience using Excel or statistical analysis tools
  • Leadership experience/capabilities; understanding & sensitivity to global cultures


Residents of Colorado

The wage range for this position specific to Colorado is $85,700 to $114,300.  The role is eligible for incentive compensation under the MetLife Annual Variable Incentive Plan ("AVIP").  Your eligibility for and award of incentives are governed by the terms of the plan.
