The Role: The AVP Regional Engineering Lead has broad technical knowledge of enterprise class technology covering cybersecurity, networking, web technologies, distributed computing (Mid-range, x86 and cloud), SAN technologies, database and middleware technologies.  S/he will have experience designing, planning for and deploying application hosting and core data center infrastructure in support of large scale, custom developed applications.  Successful candidates will create logical infrastructure designs for complex projects that span the multiple infrastructure technologies and will work closely with implementation teams, project managers and stakeholders.    



Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all engineering aspects of the regional Infrastructure Service, leading a team of skilled resources and interfacing with vendors.
  • Reporting directly to the regional CTO, own the relationship with the Enterprise Engineering function ensuring all initiatives delivered in region are aligned with the global strategy and comply with MetLife technology standards
  • Lead the infrastructure design and planning for enterprise class, large, complex, cross domain technology projects globally.
  • Create or tailor infrastructure reference architectures, design documentation, hardware/software bill of materials (BoMs), project plans and other design or project artifacts.
  • Perform infrastructure estimation and capacity planning to ensure data center shared services are sized correctly.
  • Liaise with other infrastructure engineering implementation and operations teams to ensure design feasibility and supportability.
  • Act in a technical advisory role to Project and Program Managers to ensure that technically optimal decisions are made during project planning and execution.
  • Work with the business and other non-technical resources to provide financial guidance and forecasting based on the available technical requirements.

  • Key Stakeholders: AD Hub Leadership and CIOs, Country infrastructure leadership, head of global service operations, head of global engineering, head of global infrastructure services.


Candidate Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of IT infrastructure management and support experience
  • 10+ years of infrastructure solution design experience especially in large distributed environments involving n tier architecture infrastructures, ITIL processes and service delivery.
  • 5+ years of experience performing capacity planning for physical and virtual application hosting infrastructure
  • 5+ years of in depth exposure to at least three of the following:

Cybersecurity, Converged Infrastructure (Compute/SAN/Network), Cloud Computing (Azure/SoftLayer),  Web and Middleware Servers, Application Containers (Docker), Container Orchestration, API Management and Security (IBM DataPower and API-Connect), Single Sign On (Siteminder and Ping Identity), LDAP, Monitoring and Logging (Splunk, ELK, AppDynamics), End User Compute  and ESB technologies (IBM WMB/IIB or WebMethods)

  • 10+ years team leadership, supervisory or other management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent years work experience
  • Global Enterprise experience and exposure to infrastructure design and management across multiple countries
  • Bilingual fluency English/Spanish


Preferred Experience

  • Excellent infrastructure architecture and engineering documentation skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent communications skills (oral & written) and ability to coordinate with various teams for request/task completion, facilitation, and analytical skills, inclusive of written, verbal and listening
  • Technical account management or consulting experience


5-20% travel [international possible]
