The Role:

MetLife Investment Management (MIM) is seeking a Senior Portfolio Specialist to join its Public Fixed Income group. The role will require the ability to communicate our investment philosophy and process, fixed income market conditions, and strategy details to both clients and prospective clients, and across a variety of mediums. A solid understanding of fixed income markets, the asset management industry, and experience related to client service and/or portfolio management is required. The Portfolio Specialist will be accountable for meeting a wide array of client needs and partnering with internal and external stakeholders to represent the investment team.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for MIM’s Public Fixed Income strategies to ensure consistent, accurate, and relevant messaging
  • Interpret market trends, portfolio strategy, and portfolio attribution to develop market commentary, portfolio reviews, marketing materials, strategy presentations, and thought leadership
  • Drive new business and maintain existing relationships through active participation in prospective client discussions and client portfolio reviews
  • Partner with the Institutional Client Group on new business opportunities and support in building and maintaining strategic client relationships
  • Participate in the RFP process to develop responses to non-standard questions and review completed documents
  • Participate in the onboarding of clients through the review of portfolio guidelines and reporting needs
  • Spearhead and participate in special projects as applicable


Key Relationships:

  • Key Stakeholders: Public Fixed Income portfolio managers, traders, and research analysts, Institutional Client Group, Client Service Operations, MIM Legal and Compliance


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 10 years of relevant experience, ideally with an asset management investment team
  • Strong investment acumen, including a strong understanding of fixed income markets, the asset management industry, and ESG
  • Ability to articulate strategy and market concepts in verbal and written communication
  • Strong understanding of institutional investment channels, investment products, and peer universes
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and professional presence with a demonstrated ability to build relationships
  • Self-starter with intellectual curiosity, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work within tight deadlines
  • A proven ability to foster collaboration both within the team and with functional partners across the organization
  • Strong quantitative expertise and attention to detail
  • Advanced degree or CFA, or progress toward a plus
