Department:

Part of the Corporate Ethics and Compliance group, the Corporate Special Investigation Unit is responsible for MetLife’s Anti-Fraud Program globally. The Unit primarily focuses on three areas; development and oversight of fraud awareness and prevention training, internal fraud investigations, and reporting of fraud information to internal and external stakeholders. 

 

 

The Role: As the Vice President of the Corporate Special Investigation Unit you will have global responsibility for the development and oversight of MetLife's Anti-Fraud Program. Primary global functional responsibilities include internal fraud investigations, development and oversight of fraud awareness and prevention training and reporting of fraud information to internal and external stakeholders, including industry regulators. Responsible for overseeing internal investigations into potential employee fraud and abuse, questionable vendor practices, forgery and counterfeit check analysis and also assists with investigations of other sensitive matters such as customer account takeovers, money laundering and privacy breaches. Act as a trusted advisor to business and functional areas. Oversee the aggregate assessment of fraud for the enterprise, and reports on fraud to the MetLife Board, and senior management. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all internal investigation activity in MetLife’s operations globally. 
  • Manage dedicated investigative teams as well as any compliance resources required to complete investigations.  Recruit and motivate a diverse staff.  Grow talent and create developmental opportunities across the department.
  • Manage global hotlines and fraud awareness efforts, as well as required regulatory reporting. 
  • Handle sensitive investigations personally, and prepare materials and report fraud results at least annually to the MetLife Board or a Committee thereof.
  • Develop fraud awareness training, including content and delivery, to cover the full range of compliance associates in small, medium, and large operations that comply with regulatory requirements
  • Act as the fraud liaison with MetLife’s control and risk areas.
  • Integrate fraud risk activities and reporting with other enterprise risk programs.
  • Help set company strategies for identifying, measuring, and mitigating fraud risk.
  • Develop reporting that demonstrates the relation of compliance resources and activities to compliance risk.

  • Reports to: EVP and Chief Compliance Officer – Corporate Ethics and Compliance   
  • Direct reports/team: team of approximately ten
  • Key Stakeholders: Chief Compliance Officer, business unit heads, globally

 

 

 

 

 

Candidate Qualifications:

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Proven success in motivating people, growing talent, and building key competencies in an inclusive environment.
  • Track record of seizing opportunities and driving results.
  • Experience in the areas of proactive fraud, risk management, testing and monitoring, and management reporting.   
  • Ten or more years’ experience in a control function, and possessing a governance, risk, and control mindset with strong ethical standards.
  • Expert knowledge of the Company’s operations, products, and services in multiple distribution channels.    
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to establish credibility, create partnerships, and build relationships at all levels. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver effective presentations to all audiences including the MetLife Board and executive management.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
