Role Value Proposition: 

Responsible for development, securing approval, and ongoing compliance of group policy, certificate and related contract forms for accident, critical illness and hospital indemnity products.  Drafts complex and novel provisions, and develops strategic approaches and solutions to address complex contract related and customer specific issues.   Consults with product team, actuarial, legal, government relations, sales, marketing, underwriting, and claims to identify product specifications and address state specific requirements in connection with contract development, product updates and changes in insurance laws and regulations.  Develops detailed requirements for contract issuance and issue system testing and engages in the testing process.  Addresses nonstandard assignments and devises solutions without precedent.  Establishes and maintains good working relationships with state insurance departments regarding form approval, demonstrating excellent ability to influence.  May provide technical support in the analysis of new product ventures and contract-related analyses required for due diligence activities.

 

Key Responsibilities:    

  • Consult with product development team, actuarial, underwriting, law department and operations to identify and build product specifications
  • Draft complex insurance policy provisions based on product specifications
  • Conduct regulatory research, analysis and drafting with respect to state requirements that apply to the forms and/or type of group
  • Prepare or oversee state submissions, objection responses and final approval documentation
  • Develop strategies for difficult or complex objections and negotiate approvals with state insurance departments
  • Strategic partnership with operations, issue system vendor/partners and product development team to place and test approved forms in issue system for accurate and compliant production
  • Analyze proposed/final laws and regulations to: provide input on proposed laws/regulations; determine impact on policy forms; develop strategies for compliance; and implement any required contract changes for enacted laws/regulations in coordination with product and operational partners
  • Partner with product development team, government relations, law department, compliance areas, actuarial and other internal partners as needed to address and develop strategies to resolve complex contract related issues
  • Serve as technical leader to team members
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • 10-12+ years insurance contract drafting/compliance or group insurance experience
  • Capability to develop strategic solutions and processes
  • Exhibit superior analytical ability to handle complex issues and to multi-task in a highly competitive and date-driven environment
  • Ability to manage a number of priorities simultaneously, establish and meet deadlines, coordinate activities with other departments and perform job with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to interact with all levels of management

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • Strong computer skills – Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
