Role Value Proposition: 

As a member of a hi-performing collaborative tax team this tax professional is responsible for all aspects of the tax function. The tax professional will be responsible for preparing income tax provisions for life and non-life entities in accordance with US GAAP and STAT accounting principles.  Analyze tax accruals for reasonableness and accuracy and ensure proper tax and accounting treatment. Analyze actuarial and investment securities tax adjustments and ensure proper tax treatment. The tax professional will be responsible for providing support and assistance in tax initiatives related to the FMG tax transformation process.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare interim and annual US GAAP and Statutory income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740 and SSAP 101 including analysis of the effective tax rate (ETR), current and deferred tax liability, current and deferred tax roll-forwards and tax basis proofs, ASC 740-10 (previously FIN 48) reserve analysis, and return to provision reconciliations.
  • Analyze tax actuarial adjustments and reconcile actuarial tax reserves tax basis.
  • Analyze investment tax adjustments (securities, derivatives, real estate) and investment tax basis.    
  • Prepare tax disclosures in US GAAP and Statutory financial statements, including Managements Discussion and Analysis, income tax footnote and ETR schedule.
  • Prepare and reconcile Other Comprehensive Income for the consolidated domestic entities group and the consolidated international entities group. 
  • Prepare interim and annual certification of legal entity tax balance sheet accounts.
  • Supports and works closely with the FMG Tax Transformation team initiatives, processes and procedures using Alteryx and other software.
  • Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations to reduce taxes and minimize audit exposure.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current US federal tax laws to accomplish principal responsibilities

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation.
  • Minimum 0-3 years of income tax accounting and compliance experience in a tax practice or an accounting firm.
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks workload and comply with financial reporting deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

 

Preferred:

  • CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Technical experience in life insurance tax and tax accounting, (ASC 740, SSAP 101 preferred).
  • Knowledge of Life Insurance products and Actuarial Science concepts.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, and familiar with PeopleSoft general ledger system preferred.
  • Proficient in Alteryx is preferred.
