Under the direction of MAXIS Director of Underwriting, the Underwriting manager is responsible for providing advance underwriting analysis for new business and renewals of Employee Benefits policies included in Global Pooling and Captives programs.  This position forms part of the MAXIS GBN global underwriting team, with peers based in New York, London and Hong Kong.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide underwriting and pricing for complex group employee benefits (Group Life, Accident, Disability and Medical) new business and renewals included in Pooling and Captive programs underwritten and issued by our global employee benefits network partners.
  • Lead work with local offices of MAXIS Network members and extended Network offices around the world to facilitate inclusion of policies into global employee benefits programs by analyzing financial and plan design information to decide whether to accept as reinsurer certain risks.
  • Analyze trends and performance of each global program, identify the deficient accounts and provide action plans and corrective measures.
  • Participate in global request for proposal strategy. Coordinate responses to technical questions related to RFP for new or existing multinational customers.  Review and approve customer illustrations related to second-stage accounting for reinsured business; consider the addition, deletion or modification of participating policies in the global programs.
  • Analyze and set pooling parameters for each global program based upon reinsurance support (e.g. free cover limit, reinsurance protection level, pooling method).


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 8+ years of insurance industry experience, including 5+ years of experience in Employee Benefits; Life, Accident, Disability and Medical underwriting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a numerical or analytical discipline (Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Actuarial Studies, etc.).
  • Advance experience in large or complex group employee benefits underwriting or global companies cases, and group employee benefits underwriting RFP process.
  • Extensive knowledge of International Employee Benefits; Life, Accident, Disability and Medical, and knowledge of employee benefits financing mechanisms including insured, self-insured, experience rating and captives.
  • Advance writing and communication skills; requires ability to articulate complex requirements to a wide range of audiences.



  • Re-insurance knowledge and working experience.
  • Working proficiency in Spanish or other additional foreign languages is highly desired.
  • Master Degree or MBA preferred.
  • Ability to focus on customers, manage performance effectively, and inspire a shared vision whilst building relationships.
  • Organizational skills – ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of accountability and prompt reply.
  • Proficiency with computer systems.  Strong Excel, VBA and Access skills.



15% (US with some International travel)
