Role Value Proposition: 

The Director, US Marketing Science - Direct-To-Consumer is responsible for oversight of all insights and research, segmentation, marketing metrics, campaign measurements and marketing ROI measurement activities for the US Direct-To-Consumer businesses (Property & Casualty).  The Director will be a key member of the US Marketing Science team, the US Marketing organization and the broader US Direct-to-Consumer business.  S/He will work closely with lines of business and functional marketing leaders to develop key actionable insights relevant to marketing and growing MetLife business in the US.  This position will be a blended role with traditional market research accounting for approximately 30% of time and mROI, analytics & data science accounting for 70% of the time. 


Key Responsibilities:  

  • Develops strong partnership with DTC US Marketing and Line of Business teams.
  • Demonstrates sense of business ownership and be a valued partner and thought leader influencing better, stronger, fact-based decision making.
  • Proactively identifies & recommends research agenda to DTC LoB that add significant value, develops deep understanding of customer, marketplace & business to more fully address business needs.
  • Develops and owns DTC Research Learning Plan.  Designs and commission market research studies to address knowledge gaps and to progress priority business priorities initiatives.
  • Strong ability to transform insights into action, and incorporates & synthesizes learning from other disciplines when addressing business needs.
  • Develops data driven insights via analytics and drives usage of insights by USM and DTC business teams
  • Design, develop, and execute big data and analytics solutions to solve operational and strategic data problems with focus on marketing, communications and consumer experience design.
  • Develops & delivers MROI: Commercial effectiveness, attribution and advanced analytics to address DTC business priorities and pilots.  Leads development of DTC KPIs and reporting
  • Develops reports and ad hoc analyses to generate insights & helps to build and deliver consolidated monthly KPI reports against key USM efforts.
  • Work with cross-functional partners on their business hypotheses and to help scope & execute data science work appropriately to drive business objectives
  • Utilize marketing analytics to find useful patterns in the data that can be applied to improve USM efforts
  • Supports relationship building with internal GTO resources and external resources & focus against priority business and USM needs
  • Regular Travel to DTC business location (Rhode Island) required (aprox 25% of the time).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • Minimum of 8-10+ years of marketing research and analytics experience.
  • Proven Marketing Science leader with a strong record of success and increasing responsibility.
  • Develop process and approaches to improve the effectiveness and visibility of data science
  • Experience in Market Research & Marketing Excellence, and Strong Business Acumen.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand business issues and models then translate them into metrics and analysis plans.
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a way that is easily understood
  • Ability to assess and understand all key structured and unstructured data sources
  • Leverage data science tools/techniques to analyze large data sets & develop custom models/algorithms to uncover trends, patterns & insights in the data
  • Build complex data sets from multiple data sources
  • Build/Code/Analyze Appropriate Data in order to drive to actionable and clear business recommendations
  • Drive integration of data with traditional insights, to develop more holistic and complete recommendations
  • Proven track record of triangulating disparate data and turning them into business recommendations and actions.
  • Ability to disseminate and socialize key research findings across key business partners/stakeholders and senior management
  • Ability to influence key senior stakeholders and demonstrated ability in forming trusted advisor relationships with internal partners or clients, especially in a matrixed organization.
  • Team player with experience interacting with different functional areas and personality styles
  • Conceptual modeling:  able to share and articulate modeling; (MUST)
  • Statistical analysis: understand and work around possible limitations in models; (MUST)
  • Predictive modeling: most of the big data problems are towards being able to predict future outcomes; Hypothesis testing: being able to develop hypothesis and test them with careful experiments.  (MUST)



  • Consumer Packaged Goods Industry experience is preferred.
  • Leverage data visualization tools & techniques to deliver insights that drive business recommendations, innovative business solutions and enable real-time marketing and optimization
  • Data Visualization: creative in displaying information visually and making the patterns they find clear and compelling to business partners
  • Natural Language Processing: the interactions between computers and humans;
  • Machine learning: using computers to improve/develop algorithms
  • Having the ability to query databases and perform statistical analysis;
  • Being able to develop or program databases;
  • Being able to create examples, prototypes, demonstrations to help management better understand the work;
  • Having a good understanding of design and architecture principles;
  • Strong Experience in Data Warehousing & Reporting
  • Experience with multiple RDBMS and physical database schema design
  • Experience in relational and dimensional modeling
  • Very data driven and ability to slice and dice large volumes of data
