Role Value Proposition

This regulatory professional role is in the Regulatory Unit of the US Insurance Law Section of Legal Affairs. The role will be responsible for handling a broad range of regulatory, sustainability, knowledge management, and electronic communication matters. The role entails working closely with Global Government Relations, Compliance Risk Management, Global Technology, and the lines of business on strategic initiatives and emerging issues, as well as helping ensure compliance across our global business operations. The candidate for this role should be able to anticipate regulatory focus areas and advise business leaders on the emerging risks and MetLife’s compliance with regulatory expectations.

 

This is a multi-faceted and dynamic role that requires an experienced, dedicated professional who can lead with effectiveness and efficiency. The role requires a strong working knowledge of the Legal Affairs organization and lines of business. Candidates are expected to have strong communication skills, the ability to convey information succinctly, strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to multitask and operate under fixed deadlines.    

 


Key Responsibilities 

  • Regulatory:
    • Strategically manage and prepare regulatory responses to exam requests and investigations initiated by state insurance departments, SEC, FINRA and other regulatory bodies. Coordinate with the lines of business, Global Government Relations, Compliance and Risk, as necessary.
    • Develop expertise in NY DFS regulation such as annual Market Conduct Profiles and Financial Quinquennial exams. Provide support to Versant on market conduct exams and regulatory inquiries and investigations and develop institutional knowledge and practices.
    • Review, anticipate, and advise on current and future insurance regulatory requirements. Communicate with and educate business partners on emerging areas of regulatory risk and implement governance strategies.
    • Develop bench strength by coaching and mentoring new unit members.
  • Sustainability: Support US Business implementation of the enterprise Sustainability strategy. Develop expertise of the legal and regulatory risk environment; design template customer disclosures; provide general project and regulatory support.
  • Electronic Communications:
    • Provide strategic support to implementation of new enterprise electronic communications policy. Implementation includes development of training and communication materials tailored to each MetLife region. Support ongoing monitoring and audit of policy.
    • Partner with Global Architecture to complete specialized review of ongoing business requests to use social tools (technology solutions for employee and agent communication).
  • Knowledge Management: Develop strategic solutions to streamline and enhance information management for the unit. Work with Legal Operations to design and implement new document management software. Support development of unit KPIs and overall metric management and reporting.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills 

 

 

  • Has at least 7+ of regulatory experience, including strategic matter management and engagement with financial service regulators. Experience working internationally and across multiple business and product lines.

The wage range for applicants for this position is $103,000 - 157,900.  his role is also eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. MetLife offers a comprehensive benefits program, including healthcare benefits, life insurance, retirement benefits, parental leave, legal plan services and paid time off. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
