Role Value Proposition: 

The Operational Risk Management (“ORM”) function within Global Risk Management (“GRM”) is responsible for the design and implementation of company-wide policies, frameworks, and tools enabling appropriate management of non-financial risks throughout the organization. ORM partners closely with stakeholders across the enterprise to implement strong processes and effective controls, as well as to foster and embed a strong risk culture.


This position will report into MetLife’s centralized ORM function which is responsible for the global adoption and execution of MetLife’s non-financial risk management framework with responsibility for facilitating global non-financial risk programs including: risk event reporting to ensure risk events are identified and reported in accordance with enterprise standards, enterprise taxonomy reference data is maintained and reflects MetLife’s operating environment, and training is developed and communicated to promote the importance of managing non-financial risk. The individual will collaborate and partner closely with global stakeholders including control functions, regional risk, and compliance teams to implement and promote adoption of these frameworks. This role requires strong leadership qualities, advanced project management, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence others.


The individual will report to the Director of Framework and Corporate Functions and will gain experience working across global risk management and corporate functions.


Key Responsibilities:

The position supports the execution and governance of MetLife’s Non-Financial Risk Management Policy. Specifically, the candidate will support MetLife’s Non-Financial Risk Event Framework and actively manage ORM’s reference data. This role requires advanced knowledge of principles and fundamentals of risk management and the ability to design and develop reporting to help monitor and manage non-financial risk within acceptable thresholds.


  • Implement the Non-Financial Risk Event Standard by ensuring risk event data adheres to enterprise requirements and work with global partners to ensure risk oversight and escalation activities are performed.
  • Develop non-financial risk metrics and key risk indicators to provide management with meaningful insight into the risk environment.
  • Create regular and ad-hoc reporting through quantitative and qualitative analysis to be presented to committees and provide actionable insights to senior management.
  • Maintain risk data with the company’s Governance, Risk and Compliance system and provide administrative support to various partners including regional risk teams and control functions.
  • Develop and maintain risk management reference data, policies, procedures, and templates; identify opportunities for future enhancement and incorporate user feedback.
  • Promote a strong risk culture and raise awareness of non-financial risk management by creating and communicating training.
  • Participate in complex risk management projects and lead governance initiatives including department communications, regulatory response management, and project coordination.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:



  • 8+ years of related work experience in financial services such as risk management, audit, or compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to bring together data from multiple sources, identify trends, and prepare recommendations for senior management.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to build develop partnerships and professional relationships in a cross-functional environment.
  • Team player with ability to work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and conduct presentations and communicate with senior management.
  • Proactive, forward-thinking, and process oriented with the ability to manage shifting priorities in a dynamic business environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.



  •  Bachelor's degree (in Risk Management, Finance, Business preferred) from an accredited college/university.
  • Proficiency with Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) systems.
  • Understanding of the financial services industry (insurance preferred).
