The Role:

The Director Communications Strategist for U.S. Business Communications is a highly skilled communicator experienced developing and executing communication strategies. A curious professional who enjoys variety in the work, this individual will spend most of their time on external communications for our Group Benefits business but will lead some internal communications programs as well.

 

The ideal candidate will have a passion for storytelling with expertise in crafting messages that drive action and engagement, and an ability to interpret what they hear from business leaders to develop, manage, and execute integrated communication strategies that are fresh, interactive, and engaging.
 

This individual’s ability to counsel business leaders, collaborate with cross-functional colleagues, and help subject matter experts articulate how their work is differentiating, will enable them to develop and execute communications plans that motivate and inspire individuals, build consideration among customers, and reinforce MetLife’s reputation in the marketplace.

 

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead the development and execution of strategic communications plans supporting our Group Benefit suite of products and solutions
  • Serve as strategic advisor to senior leader stakeholders with the ability to flex to different leadership styles to achieve desired outcomes
  • Collaborate cross functionally to craft and manage internal and external communications
  • Proven track record of exceptional media planning and execution with the ability to develop strong relationships with key media outlets
  • Develops and delivers clear and concise audience-first communications, including, but not limited to, executive messages, newsletters, campaigns, organizational announcements, targeted emails, briefing materials, articles, video scripts, and social media
  • Proactively research current and future trends in the industry and provide recommendations to senior leadership
  • Collaborate with key external partners including journalists while understanding their requirements

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • 10+ years of experience in communications and/or public relations
  • Experience working with senior leaders and a passion for storytelling
  • Experience delivering B2B and B2C communications campaigns with demonstrated results
  • Extremely strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative thinker with a proven ability to turn ideas into actionable programs that build brand and product awareness
  • Understanding and experience with internal communications programs
  • High energy and strong work ethic
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field is highly preferred

 

 Preferred:

  • Experience working in a matrixed organization
  • Expertise in communications metrics/measurement
  • Experience with video/multi-media production
  • Experience in financial services
  • Agency experience a plus
