Key Responsibilities:

This role will lead MetLife Way (Lean) implementation “waves” within Legal Affairs as well as on-going support to areas which have completed the wave deployment and require occasional support and coaching.  The role will lead a global team within Legal Affairs with team members in key regions.


The overall business objective is to employ Lean management systems / operating systems / mindsets and behavioral tools & techniques to engage and energize associates to instill a continuous focus on the end-to-end process from a customer and business partner  perspective. The expected outcome is increased capacity of internal resources which will then be applied to higher value added client activities, regulatory / business initiatives over time. The Solution Lead will also be responsible for coaching and developing internal resource capability for increased internal capacity for future Lean deployment and maturity initiatives.


The Solution Lead will leverage the Lean tools and methods to work both with the staff level associates as well as regional senior management.


MetLife Way Deployment Planning and Scoping:

  • Work with senior management in identification and prioritization of Lean based continuous improvement deployments
  • Establish deployment sponsorship support and align key stakeholders to objectives, approach, resrouces and timing
  • Structure deployment efforts in terms of scope, plan, resources, objectives, deliverables and timing
  • Develop high level deployment plan including deployment structure, overall approach, deliverables, key milestones, stakeholder communications and timing
  • Ensure alignment of MetLife Way with business objectives

MetLife Way Deployment Delivery:

  • Provide overall deployment leadership throughout deployment delivery from diagnostic through future state design, pilot and implementation and transition to business teams while helping them establish an effective continuous improvement process
  • Develop strong relationship with key leaders and coach and develop them as lean leaders
  • Provide consulting assistance to business unit leadership for process improvement topics
  • Mentor and provide technical support to multiple Lean continuous improvement waves
  • Facilitate and lead teams for initial wave deployment and on-going support and coaching
  • Develop storylines and ghost decks (e.g., hypothesis development and testing, collecting and presenting data effectively, synthesizing key findings)
  • Hold deployment teams accountable for time lines and deliverables on a daily and weekly basis
  • Provide targeted analytical support where current resources cannot provide support (e.g., excel analytics)
  • Participate in data gathering and synthesizing diagnostic findings
  • Facilitate discussions and gain commitment to new future state
  • Participate in implementation and active refinement of future state during implementation
  • Develop a transition plan and assist/coach business teams’ leaders in the new process and leader roles to ensure a sustainable transition after initial deployment
  • Assist in developing and sustaining a Lean continuous improvement culture understood and embraced by Legal Affairs associates

  Lean Expertise:

  • Provide lean thinking and guidance to deployment teams and help drive lean thinking into the designs
  • Facilitate working sessions / workshops, including kick-off, diagnostic review, future state development, future state review, Executive alignment (multiple), VP Forum, implementation planning ensuring adherence to lean principles and a spirit of innovation and experimentation
  • Establish measures and metrics that reflect customer value, value creation and waste
  • Encourage an environment of experimentation, “launch and learn” and continuous improvement
  • Provide observational coaching for deployment leaders and teams on lean mindsets and behaviors


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Subject matter expertise on lean principles, tools & practices
  • Extensive working knowledge of Enterprise CoE approach, toolkit and resources, including how to leverage resources within Enterprise CoE to achieve the objectives of Legal Affairs
  • Demonstrate the delivery of results using Lean methodology and tools and driving significant change
  • Ensure realization of implementation benefits, mindsets & behaviors
  • Management and mentorship of high performing teams
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proven experience in strategy formulation and implementation
  • Strong influencing skills.  Strong relationship building and management skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in statistical analysis, process analysis, problem solving, and deployment facilitation / coaching



  • Extensive Lean Experience,  preferably in transactional services
  • 10 - 15 years experience
  • Demonstrated success in corporate-wide Lean deployment



  • Insurance Industry experience
  • MBA or an advanced Degree in a technical field such as industrial engineering / operations research
  • Multi-million dollar change initiatives
  • Deployment Management Professional (PMP) Certification
