The Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) is charged with advancing the development and evaluation of MetLife's corporate strategies. The group will advise the Executive Group, MetLife’s top executive officers, on matters of corporate strategy and will function as an in-house strategic consulting group, responsible for assisting MetLife in creating, communicating and sustaining its strategy.  The ESG will work closely with the business unit strategy leaders globally to ensure consistency and alignment between our corporate and business strategies.  


The Role:

The AVP, Product Development will work with Global Strategy and a cross-functional team of senior leaders at MetLife to manage the consolidation of the new product development process globally.  As a valued contributor, this individual will spend a significant portion of time producing, analyzing and synthesizing information from around the globe.  Will lead and participate in numerous team development activities (e.g., peer to peer coaching, mentoring, etc.) to improve capabilities and encourage collaboration across the globe.  Will gain invaluable experience working across functions and businesses while engaging with executive and senior level MetLife leaders across the globe.


Key Responsibilities:

The principal responsibilities of this position include:

  • Create a framework (and implement it) to identify gaps on customer needs and products offered
  • Evaluate product pipeline
  • Develop and implement best practices on product management 
  • Facilitate global sharing of product best practices
  • Monitor product development process rollout and provide periodic improvement
  • Work with the VP of product to prepare and deliver updates to the Executive Group and initiative steering committee
  • Serve as the main liaison for regional product teams, which include product and pricing actuaries
  • Global product coordinator for product simplification initiative

  • Reports to: Vice President, Leader of Product Simplification Program
  • Direct reports/team: n/a
  • Key Stakeholders: CEO, Chief Strategy Officer, Executive Group, Product Steering Committee, Regional Product Leads and local country managers.


Candidate Qualifications:


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 8+ years of product development or strategic problem solving experience
  • BS or equivalent from a top ranked institution; higher degree MBA/MS a big plus
  • Demonstrated distinctive problem solving and analytical skills (micro- and macroeconomics, finance and advanced modeling skills)
  • Experience in driving to synthesis and developing recommendations; high degree of comfort with ambiguity
  • Show business maturity, have strong presence and possess advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Prior experience in projects that require detailed execution
  • Exhibit strong collaboration skills and ability to engage across multiple functions and business units 
  • Be a self-starter, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Prior product management or product development experience is a plus
  • Ability to manage consensus at various levels and cultivate strategic internal relationships across a highly matrixed organization.
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution capabilities
  • Ability to influence and negotiate without formal direct authority, consultative in approach; diplomatic.
  • Strong team builder, inclusive by nature.
  • Organized and detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally
  • Flexibility to accommodate working across global time zones.
