Summary of Responsibilities:

MetLife is embarking on aggressively expanding its Asia business, both expanding the business capabilities through GTO Reinvestment building global/regional solutions. This key focus area requires delivery & building of these global/regional solutions supporting key initiatives across Asia and expanding the solution through leverage & reuse globally. As such, Asia IT has identified this role of a Program Manager to manage the vendor and implementation of the solutions spanning across the region.

 

This requires the person to manage project(s) delivering & implementing of these solution for countries with the big picture in focus while being able to dive into the unique implementation challenges we face daily. He/she is expected to manage complex, cross-team strategic business and technology team. He/she is expected to gain stakeholder trust and adept at influencing others. He/she is able to secure resources needed for delivery, escalate issues and anticipate project specific risks to ensure timely and on-budget implementations. Requires him/her to be excellent at communicating to all levels and are comfortable explaining team’s analyses and recommendations to executives as he/she are discussing business and technical trade-offs or dependencies with business stakeholders, IT team and vendors.

 

  • Leads multiple teams and parallel work streams in delivery of technology solutions, working closely both the business teams, IT teams and vendors from the global, regional and country to develop and track release milestones and schedules
  • Coordinates with partners to deliver value and realization of clear business benefits
  • Builds relationships with business and technology executives and user/customer base. Develops and manages program plans, work process investment plan, demand and project staging plans with business partners and shared services
  • Accountable for large programs or portfolio of projects upwards of $1 million
  • Manages teams of senior project managers, vendors, and technical leads in a highly matrixed organization with potential overall program team size from 25 to greater than 50 resources
  • Identifies and coordinates heavy interdependencies to ensure timing and alignment of solution releases, hardware, and resources
  • Ensures communication, coordination of activities, and issue resolution amongst core team members, senior management and other stakeholders
  • Manages focused project recovery activities including quick situational analysis, needs assessment, and hands-on collaboration to bring in distressed projects and teams back on track
  • Contributes to a culture of innovation, collaboration, and partnership with a willingness to proactively coach, facilitate, share knowledge, and be the role model and advocate for a changing technology organization

 

Required experience

  • 10 – 12 years related work experience successfully managing large, complex projects
  • Strong program/project management background with exposure to complex multi-country projects
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills, understands what it takes to deliver software with exposure to large-scale systems
  • Extensive knowledge of project management concepts and practices such as Scope, Communication, Financial and Risk Management practices, as well as Project Lifecycle methodologies
  • Adept at leading distributed, global teams
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical abilities
  • 5-8+ years in the role of managing projects combined with technical experience directly related to the position
  • Minimum 3-5 years of management, supervisory or team leader experience
  • Posses strong leadership and negotiation skills
  • Knowledgeable in office automation tools (MS Office suite of applications, email, Internet, etc.)
  • Understanding of team leadership, business practices and their application to effective project management
  • Proven stakeholder management skills and ability to remove project obstacles
  • Experience in the Software Development Lifecycle

 

Preferred experience

  • Experience in Agile methodology, tools, and Agile integration with Waterfall Experience in insurance, financial services or technology consulting
  • PMP certified and continues to maintain certification, ScrumMaster certification with Agile/Lean experience a plus
  • Experience working in a matrix organization and working in a global/regional/local environment
  • Experience managing distributed teams
