Role Value Proposition:

  • Develop a holistic view of MetLife Asia’s capital and reinsurance requirements and optimal structure.
  • Partner across the region to firstly manage requirements under all relevant capital regimes to our business including: local solvency, rating agency capital models, Economic Capital (EC) and any potential capital requirements
  • Regional responsibility for ensuring that Asia has a holistic and strategic approach to the use of reinsurance, both inward and outward.
  • Provide expert decision support through effective reporting to the Asia CFO, Global Treasury team, Asia Leadership Group in connection with capital management and reinsurance activities.
  • Partner with Finance, Risk and all businesses to understand capital and liquidity requirements under base case and projections as well as stressed market conditions, develop response and provide recommendations of actions to be taken.
  • Develop strategies to support the effective deployment of capital in compliance with all relevant policies.


Main responsibilities:

  • Understand capital regimes that drive business strategy at global, regional and local level
  • Manage capital projection process (dividends, contributions, M&A transactions, etc) to support cash flow forecast
  • Manage regional reinsurance, including reinsurance relationships with external and internal reinsurers, use of reinsurance for capital management and efficient reinsurance risk transfer and assessment. Work with Global Reinsurance team to ensure adequate controls in place for reinsurance activities in Asia ex Japan
  • Partner with Risk and Finance to assess capital needs under business as usual and stress conditions; assist in the development of Target Capital for Asia operating entities
  • Develop appropriate reports to drive the strategic management of capital for the Asia CFO
  • Assess and analyze evolving and newly emerging regulatory and rating agency capital requirements and recommend actions where appropriate. Support the process for annual rating agency discussion with rating agencies
  • Partner with CFOs and businesses across the region to help support decisions that drive effective capital management; ensure regular and effective two-way communication
  • Partner with Investment, Cash Management and Risk to ensure connectivity with Liquidity Stress Modeling; Coordinate and manage reporting for liquidity assessment for Asia ex Japan
  • Ensure that each country has a sound capital management plan which is agreed with the regional CFO, corporate Treasury and local Boards as applicable
  • Participate in projects to support the sub regional CFO for financial & risk assessment as required for Bangladesh, Nepal, Malaysia and Vietnam


Candidate Qualifications

  • Strong analytical background, around 10 years life insurance experience with relevant experience in capital or financial risk management ideally familiar with Asian and other regulatory regimes;
  • Experience in local statutory financial reporting, local accounting [i.e. International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)], and embedded values (Traditional Embedded Values, European Embedded Value and Market Consistent Embedded Value);
  • Experience of using reinsurance and derivatives for transforming risk exposures of balance sheets;
  • A qualified actuary, accountant or risk professional from an internationally recognized profession or qualified by suitable experience.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across different countries and cultures.
