Role Value Proposition:
The objective of Internal Audit Actuarial is to review and test the controls around actuarial processes and assure our business partners that their methods are efficient, accurate, and following company and industry best practices. Responsibilities include conducting audits, proposing recommended solutions to control weaknesses, and providing client advisory to improve their actuarial practices. This position will interact with actuarial, finance, risk and IT teams, serving as a subject matter expert on a wide range of topics including but not limited to: US GAAP reporting, IFRS reporting, Embedded Value, assumption setting, reserving, regulatory and economic capital, product pricing and development, and ALM.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform analysis of regulatory and accounting changes, product strategy, and economic/demographic conditions to identify key sources of actuarial related risk in Asia and develop a risk-based audit strategy.
- Lead country level audits and perform deep dive on various topics including US GAAP, IFRS 17, assumption setting, product development and pricing, capital, and investments.
- Create and foster relationships with the local actuarial staff throughout Asia, including the local Chief Actuaries and regional Chief Actuary. Develop relationships with non-actuarial business partners within Audit, Risk, Finance, and IT.
- Add value by identifying root causes of potential reserving, reporting, or pricing error and making recommendations to management to address the risk.
- Recognized as a strong candidate to participate on business partnering assignments due to strong technical skills project management abilities, and knowledge of MetLife.
- Partner with both local and US audit teams in planning and executing audits
- Perform and validate complex actuarial calculations and evaluate the reasonableness of methodology and assumptions. Analyze and assess financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
- Communicate potential financial and operational impacts of audit issues to management.
Development Opportunities:
- This position reports to the VP Internal Audit, Actuarial.
- Effective management, coaching, and development of their reports(s) as well as local actuarial audit staff
- Develops Internal Audit’s capabilities strategy and ensures effective and meaning delivery to the department, partnering with our HR partners as appropriate.
- Consults with senior IA leadership and various contacts throughout the global department to determine training needs, developing the training strategy to meet those needs
- Competency training initiative
- eLearning modules (e.g. , ILA)
- Works proactively with MetLife Learning & Development for training development
- Drives the department’s performance development process in conjunction with our HR partners
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
- Qualified actuary or an extensive experience in actuarial valuations and audit
- 10 years + experience
- Fluency in English. Speaking skills - Japanese, Mandarin or Korean language skill desirable
Preferred:
- Experience in US GAAP Reporting, IFRS 17 Reporting, or European Embedded Value, Pricing, or Assumptions Development
- Strong presentation, written, relationship management, and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and at times lead a small project team
